These are the new Volkswagen Transporter and Caravelle!
Several variants
The new Volkswagen Transporter is available in a wide range of versions.
There are plenty of options for entrepreneurs to put together their commercial vehicle entirely according to their wishes.
It will be available in a large number of variants, such as Closed van, Double cab, Kombi (passenger transport) and Pick-up with double cab.
The Van and Kombi will also be available with a raised roof and/or an extended wheelbase.
The Double Cab always has a long wheelbase with standard roof height.
The Caravelle, also available with short and long wheelbase, offers space for up to nine passengers and is ideal for luxury passenger transport.
Powertrains Volkswagen Transporter and Caravelle
The Transporter and Caravelle will be available with turbodiesel engines (TDI), as a plug-in hybrid or with an all-electric powertrain.
The TDI engine is available with power ratings of 81 kW (110 hp), 110 kW (150 hp) or 125 kW (170 hp).
The newly developed plug-in hybrid (eHybrid) has a system output of 171 kW (232 hp).
For the electric versions with a 64 kWh (net) battery, there is a choice of 100 kW (136 hp), 160 kW (218 hp) or 210 kW (286 hp) output.
Another electric version with lower power and smaller battery follows especially for urban distribution.
The TDI with 125 kW has an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard; on the 110 kW version this transmission can be ordered as an option.
Dimensions Volkswagen Transporter
At 5,055 mm in length, the new Transporter is 146 mm longer than the T6.1.
The wheelbase measures 3,100 mm and has grown 97 mm.
A version with 400 mm longer wheelbase is also available.
Because the cargo area has widened 148 mm, a load of 1,392 mm now fits between the wheel arches, making it even easier to load a Europallet.
The load floor has a length of 2,602 mm, or 3,002 mm in the extended wheelbase version.
In the standard version, the maximum cargo volume is now 5.8m2; with the long wheelbase and raised roof, even 9.0m2 can be transported.
Despite the increased dimensions, the vehicle remains easy to maneuver; the turning radius is 11.8 m (standard wheelbase).
Depending on the version, the new model is capable of towing a load of up to 2.8 tons.
hefty digital displays
The new Transporter and Caravelle no longer start with a key, but with the start button located between the 12-inch digital instrument cluster and 13-inch large infotainment screen.
Also characteristic of this latest generation of the Transporter are the high dashboard with an ergonomic layout and the high seating position.
The selector lever of the (optional) automatic transmission is positioned higher on the dashboard than in the T6.1, creating more legroom.
As before, the gearshift for manual versions is located in the center console.
The multifunction steering wheel is equipped with several buttons.
The volume of the infotainment system can be adjusted via the steering wheel or a classic rotary knob.
The traditional hand brake lever has been replaced by a parking brake switch in the center of the dashboard, for even more foot space.
There are additional cup holders and practical storage compartments in the upper part of the dashboard.
Convenient connections
And with its arsenal of charging points, it can also power a wide variety of devices while driving or at its destination.
The electrical interfaces include not only USB-A, USB-C and 12V sockets, but also charging options for 230V devices if desired.
In the diesel versions, the 230V socket (400 W) is always located on the driver’s seat frame.
The (partially) electric versions can be equipped with two additional sockets near the D-pillars; in this case, all three 230V sockets provide a total output of 2,300 W.
Standard equipment
Transporter drivers now benefit from even richer standard equipment.
The latest-generation Transporter comes standard with LED headlights, LED taillight clusters, an electronic parking brake with Auto Hold function, a 12-inch digital instrument panel (Digital Cockpit), an infotainment system (including DAB+, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, online services and 13-inch touchscreen), a multifunction steering wheel, the Keyless Start system, a rain sensor, Lane Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking and the Dynamic Road Sign Display.
Volkswagen PanAmericana
Since 2001, the PanAmericana had already been available outside the Netherlands, where it grew into an exclusive and much-loved cult classic.
That a seventh-generation PanAmericana had to be produced again was therefore obvious.
This version was developed as a variant of the Transporter Van and Caravelle, and can be recognized by its robust all-terrain elements such as grained sideskirts and wheel arches.
The bumpers are prepared for rugged conditions and the tailgate or doors feature a protective wrap.
The interior features illuminated stainless steel entry strips, trim parts in high-gloss black on the dashboard, chrome door handles and special upholstery.
The PanAmericana versions become available with 17- and 19-inch wheels.
The optional 4MOTION all-wheel drive system perfectly complements the PanAmericana’s tough character.
The new Transporter Van PanAmericana will also be available in the Netherlands starting this generation.
Unveiling in September 2024
The new Volkswagen Transporter and Caravelle will be unveiled on September 15 and presented following the IAA in Hannover.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will announce the Dutch versions, prices and specifications at the start of pre-sales, shortly after the IAA.
