These are the most reliable cars according to the Consumers’ Association
Online survey
The Consumers Union survey is an online survey of owners (members and non-members) of cars up to 10 years old. The questions focus on problems that may or may not have occurred with the car in the past year.
If a repair could wait, that weighs 20% in the rating. If the car had to go directly to the garage, that counts for 35% and for 45% if the car could not continue driving. All results are summed by make and model.
Most reliable and least reliable car brand
Last year came Mitsubishi yet to emerge as the most reliable car brand. This year Suzuki scores the most points, the No. 2 from last year. Suzuki’s high score is due to five models scoring higher than a 7.4 in the survey. Those are the Suzuki Celerio, Ignis, Swift, SX4 and Vitara.
With the exception of BMW in place 5, the entire top 10 consists of Japanese and Korean automakers. Citroën comes out of this year’s test as the least reliable car brand with a 6.0, followed by Renault, Ford and Fiat (6.1). Interestingly, a Renault does appear in the top 10 most reliable models.
