These are the 5 most economical hybrid cars

April 22, 2023

Everything is getting more expensive, but driving perhaps the most. Unfortunately, that only seems to be getting worse. Fortunately, there are some ways to still save on your costs. For example, by choosing a hybrid model. Nowadays, hybrid cars are no more expensive than “regular” cars and increasingly even cheaper. Then you save on fuel with hybrid driving, too. Count your winnings!

To save even more, you can choose the hybrid car with the lowest selling price. Therefore, we have listed the five most economical hybrid cars in the Netherlands for you. In doing so, we looked only at the starting price of the hybrid version, not at individual trim levels. Mild hybrids don’t count either, we only look at full hybrids.

5. – 32,695 euros – Renault Captur Hybrid 145

In fifth place is the Renault Captur, the brand’s popular compact SUV-like model. With this car, you have access to 105 kW (143 hp) and a maximum torque of 255 Nm. Official WLTP consumption is nicely modest at 5.0 l/100km (1 in 20.0). Moreover, in this hybrid, the wheels are always fully electrically driven and the fuel engine serves as support. This provides an extra smooth ride.

The related new Mitsubishi ASX falls just outside this list with a starting price of 33,490 euros. For that price, you do get a slightly richer standard equipment than the Renault Captur. The technical specifications are identical, with 105 kW (143 hp) and 205 Nm of torque as well. Consumption, however, at 4.6 l/100km (1 on 21.7) is just a bit more economical than the Renault!

4. – 32,495 euros – Suzuki Vitara 1.5 Hybrid

If you want to save a little more, you’ll end up with the Suzuki Vitara 1.5 Hybrid for a slightly lower amount. That has 85 kW (115 hp) and 235 Nm of torque. Average consumption is set at 5.3 l/100km (1 on 18.9) (WLTP). So these values are a bit less than the Renault, but on the other hand, it is a more practical model.

3. – 29,650 euros – Dacia Jogger Hybrid and Toyota Yaris Cross 1.5 Hybrid

Speaking of practicality, no hybrid offers more space for its money than the Dacia Jogger Hybrid. With 104 kW (141 hp) and 148 Nm, you also have more than enough power and torque at your disposal. Consumption is also very modest at 4.9 l/100km (1 on 20.4). The Jogger shares its third place with the exactly as expensive Toyota Yaris Cross 1.5 Hybrid. That, in turn, is an interesting option for those who value higher seating over space and practicality. Power is 85 kW (116 hp) and torque 120 Nm. In the process, with a WLTP consumption of 4.5 l/100km (1 on 22.2), it does make it the most fuel-efficient hybrid in this list so far.

2. – 25,665 euros – Renault Clio Hybrid 140

Literally the more compact brother of the Renault Captur with which this list began. With 103 kW (140 hp) of power and 205 Nm of torque, it is just a bit less powerful, but sets a wonderfully low fuel consumption of 4.3 l/100km (1 on 23.3) in return. Moreover, it is just a bit bigger and more practical than the number one in this list.

1. – 23,995 euros – Toyota Yaris 1.5 Hybrid

That number one is the Toyota Yaris, the “regular” hatchback variant of the Yaris Cross just mentioned. Both cars share their technology and so the Yaris also boasts 85 kW (116 hp) and 120 Nm. Its more compact dimensions also make it the most fuel-efficient hybrid in this list, with a WLTP consumption of 3.8 l/100km (1 in 26.3).
