The new ‘Up’: this is the Volkswagen ID.1 (2027)
Affordable electric car Volkswagen
That Volkswagen wants to come up with an affordable electric car has not been a surprise for a long time. Already in 2023, the brand presented the study model Volkswagen ID.2all coming to market during 2026 and an ID.2 GTI in 2027. The ID.2 can reach up to 450 kilometers on a full charge of electricity and will have a starting price of less than 25,000 euros.
Volkswagen ID. Every1
But it can be even cheaper, because this Volkswagen ID. Every1 – in normal Dutch the Volkswagen ID.1 – has just been presented. This is another 100% electric Volkswagen, but with an expected price tag of about 20,000 euros. Volkswagen will introduce the production version during 2027. You may think of the ID.1 as the replacement for the Volkswagen Up, which was built until 2023.
Electric Urban Car Family
Both the ID.2 and ID.1 are part of the new front-wheel drive Electric Urban Car Family being developed under the umbrella of the Core brand group in the Volkswagen Group. They are based on Volkswagen’s new modular electric drive platform: the front-wheel drive MEB.

New software architecture
The production version of the ID. Every1 will be the first model in the entire Group to use a new software architecture. This means that the future entry-level Volkswagen can be equipped with new features throughout its life cycle if users so desire. Even after purchasing a new car, the vehicle can still be individually adapted to their needs.
Technical data Volkswagen ID.1 prototype
Thanks to electric front-wheel drive, the MEB platform offers plenty of space, Volkswagen promises. The concept model of the ID.1 reaches a top speed of 130 km/h and is powered by a newly developed electric motor with 70 kW (95 hp). The range is at least 250 kilometers according to the WLTP test standard. With a length of 3,880 mm, the ID. Every1 stands between the former Up! (3,600 mm), the ID. 2all (4,050 mm) and the current Polo (4,074 mm). Inside, it offers space for four people and a boot volume of 305 liters.
To put things in a bit of perspective, the Volkswagen ID.2 concept has an electric motor with an output of up to 166 kW (226 hp) and a driving range of up to 450 kilometers. The boot capacity ranges from 490 to 1,330 liters.
Share of EVs Volkswagen
Volkswagen is aiming for an 80% share of electric cars in Europe. Volkswagen Passenger Cars previously based its calculations on a 70% share. In short: big ambitions at Volkswagen. The brand could use a little success. Perhaps this ID.1 can help with that.
