From self-built vans to driving palaces

Motorhomes come in all shapes and sizes; from self-built vans to driving palaces. According to outgoing KCI president Leo Diepemaat, the spectacular growth can be seen in each of these segments: “Anyone who has ever experienced the freedom of traveling by motorhome no longer wants to do anything else. Whether that is with a maneuverable and compact campervan or a super deluxe full-size motorhome. Moreover, manufacturers are moving with the times; sustainability and the use of new technology are paramount. For example, motorhomes are therefore becoming largely self-sufficient.”

Number of caravans also rising

Leo Diepemaat, who was president of KCI for fourteen years, says: “The industry is at an all-time high and in my opinion the stretch is far from over. More and more Dutch people are becoming addicted to camping and the number of caravans is also rising again, after twenty years of gradual decline. Folding trailers and rooftop tents are popular, young couples and families are flocking to the campsites… While just over four years ago we were all at a loss because of the corona-lockdowns. We’re going to have a great time!”
