Tesla Robot Taxi: has Tesla cracked the code?
Tesla Robot Taxi in 2027
The Robot Taxi is expected to go into production around 2027. The target price is under $30,000. The Tesla Robotaxi does not have a steering wheel, but it does have two comfortable seats and a central infotainment display. The Robotaxi drives completely autonomously. Charging is via an induction charger, with the car riding on a special plate that can charge the battery by induction. The car has – as currently proposed – no physical charging point with plug-in connection.
Aerodynamic shape
Specifications were not shared during the Robot Taxi’s presentation, but Tesla does promise that it will be one of the most efficient EVs on the market. This is then mainly due to the aerodynamic shape of the car. In terms of design, the car looks a lot like the larger Cybertruck, but the 2013 Volkswagen XL1 also comes to mind. The wing doors add an exciting edge to the design.
Demonstration rides
The Tesla Robotaxi – which was also called Cybercab during the presentation – highlights that Tesla has big plans when it comes to autonomous driving. During the unveiling event, one in ten of the Robot Taxis drove around. The demonstration rides went off without a hitch. That’s pretty clever, since Tesla uses purely cameras and artificial intelligence (AI) to make the cars drive autonomously. Radar technology is missing.
Also for individuals
The Robotaxi is especially suitable for fleet owners, who want to replace their conventional cabs with autonomous ones, for example. But even a private individual should soon be able to buy a Robot Taxi. That for less than 30 grand, Musk promises. According to the top man, the Robotaxi’s software is also suitable for the Model 3 and Model Y.
