Tesla no longer welcome at major international auto show
What’s going on?
Anyone who follows the news a bit knows that Tesla is currently sensitive in Canada. Actually worldwide, but certainly in Canada as well. Tesla boss Elon Musk has a prominent role in the administration of US President Donald Trump, and the latter would prefer to see Canada join as the 51st state of the US. A remarkable proposal, but Trump seems to be serious about it. The Canadian government is not pleased with his proposal, and in response, Trump has imposed hefty import tariffs on Canadian goods. This has further inflamed tensions.
Definitely banned
Tesla’s popularity in Canada has plummeted in part because of this. Indeed, there is open hostility against the brand. Organizers of the Vancouver auto show are concerned about safety at the show and therefore asked Tesla to voluntarily withdraw. It is unclear whether Tesla has responded to the trade show organizers’ request, but in the meantime the organizers themselves have decided to exclude the brand as a precautionary measure.
Tesla under fire
Things have gone awry in Tesla’s homeland in recent days: in several North American cities, the brand’s Tesla cars and showrooms were attacked. In Las Vegas, a Tesla repair center was even set on fire, an incident that the FBI is investigating as a possible terror crime.
