Surprise: all-new Nissan Micra and Nissan LEAF already in the Netherlands this year

March 26, 2025

Electric Nissan Micra

Designed by Nissan Design Europe in London, the new-generation Nissan Micra shares its platform with the Renault 5 E-Tech electric. The model comes with a choice of two battery options: 40 and 52 kWh, good for a maximum range of over 400 kilometers. Production will take place at the Renault ElectriCity plant in France. Reportedly, the new Nissan Micra will also get the same electric motors as the Renault 5 E-Tech electric. So count on a 90 kW (120 hp) and 110 kW (150 hp) version. Whether an extra sporty Micra EV also appears with the technology of the Alpine A290 is not known. That Alpine comes with 130 kW (180 hp) or even 160 kW (220 hp).

This is not the first time the Nissan Micra has been based on a Renault model. The previous generation Micra was built based on the Renault Clio. And that is not surprising, since Renault and Nissan form an alliance. Nissan is sticking to a similar strategy with the new Micra, only now the Japanese automaker is grabbing the Renault 5 E-Tech electric as its base. One thing is certain: the Micra will go on sale in the Netherlands from the end of 2025 as an all-electric city car with the character of its predecessors: a compact and accessible mix of quirky design and simplicity.

Also, a new Nissan LEAF!

Nissan will also introduce the all-new LEAF in 2025. This third generation, however, is completely different from the current Nissan LEAF. It returns as a high-powered crossover, while the current LEAF goes through life as a five-door hatchback.

Nissan is building the new LEAF on the same CMF-EV platform as the Nissan ARIYA. Production will take place at the Sunderland plant in northeast England. Technical details are not yet known.

New Nissan JUKE 100% electric

Nissan is also working hard on the successor to the JUKE. This third generation will debut in fiscal year 2026 as an all-electric crossover. The car is inspired by the Hyper Punk concept car that Nissan presented at the Japan Mobility Show in 2023. The new JUKE is expected to use the same technology as the Renault 4 E-Tech electric, on par with the Nissan Micra and Renault 5.

New e-POWER technology

Nissan’s e-POWER technology – launched in Europe in 2022 – will also get a major update in 2025. The latest version of e-POWER in the Qashqai has lower CO2 emissions, consumes less and offers more refinement, according to Nissan. Since its introduction, nearly 250,000 vehicles with e-POWER have already been sold in Europe. “The driving experience comes even closer to that of an all-electric car – without the need for recharging,” said David Moss, Senior Vice President, Region Research & Development, AMIEO at Nissan.

Product Strategy

The revamp of the European model range is part of Nissan’s global product strategy. The emphasis is on electric drive, design, technology and ease of use. The goal is that those features should appeal to new buyers but also continue to win over loyal Nissan drivers.
