December 20, 2024

Visit to factory and Design Centre

During a visit to the Opel plant in Rüsselsheim, top Stellantis executives confirmed their plans for the future of Opel and its German operations. Stellantis Chairman John Elkann, Xavier Chéreau (Chairman of the Opel Supervisory Board) and Opel CEO Florian Huettl emphasized the importance of innovation, sustainability and cooperation in a changing automotive industry.

The visit included a tour of the production hall where models such as the Opel Astra and DS 4 are built, as well as a presentation in the Design Center of future Opel models. Discussions with employees and social partners, such as trade union IG Metall, focused on cooperation and strengthening German operations.

Investments in sustainability and innovation

An important part of the visit was the preview of the grEEn campus, Stellantis’ future headquarters in Germany and Opel’s global headquarters. This new facility, being built in Rüsselsheim, is designed to reduce the site’s carbon footprint and will exemplify sustainability and efficiency.

Transforming production

According to Stellantis, Germany has a key role in the transformation to a more sustainable auto industry. The Opel plant in Rüsselsheim has been praised for its rapid transition to a modern and efficient production site. This is in line with Stellantis’ strategy to remain competitive and offer customers high-quality electric and hybrid vehicles.

Return to ACEA and stricter CO2 rules

With stricter CO2 regulations on the horizon, Stellantis has rejoined the European automakers’ association ACEA. Through this organization, the company aims to work with partners and policymakers to chart a common course for the future of the auto industry.

One team for Stellantis in Germany

According to Opel CEO Florian Huettl, Rüsselsheim remains an important pillar within Stellantis: “Rüsselsheim stands not only for 125 years of automobile production, but also for innovation and progress. We look to the future with confidence, continue to play a pioneering role in the transformation of the automotive industry and surprise our customers with our distinctive models. Opel is the first German manufacturer to offer a battery-electric variant of every model without exception. With our employees and partners, we are implementing our strategy with full conviction and focus.”
