Plug-in hybrid SUV

The WEY 05 is a plug-in hybrid SUV in the D-segment. With a length of about 4.87 meters, a width of 1.96 meters and a wheelbase of about 2.91 meters, it is comparable to models such as the BMW X3, Volvo XC60 and Audi Q5. The design is characterized by a large, upright grille, slim LED headlights and a fairly clean-lined body. The car looks broad and solid, without pronounced sporty touches.

Gasoline engine

Technically, GWM opts for a complex powertrain. The WEY 05 combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine with two electric motors. Total system power is 350 kW (476 hp) and maximum torque comes out to 847 Nm. Drive is via a multistage transmission, and thanks to an electric motor on the rear axle, the car has all-wheel drive.

Performance is solid for a plug-in hybrid SUV of this size. According to factory specifications, the WEY 05 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in about 5 seconds. The top speed is around 235 km/h. It should be noted that the kerb weight, partly due to the battery pack, rises to around 2,500 kilograms.

hefty battery pack

The capacity of that battery pack is remarkable. With a gross battery capacity of approximately 39.7 kWh, the WEY 05 boasts one of the larger batteries in the plug-in hybrid segment. According to WLTP, the maximum electric range is about 140 to 146 kilometers, depending on version and conditions. This makes it theoretically possible to cover many daily trips completely electrically. Charging can be via AC up to 11 kW and in addition, the car also supports DC fast charging.

Interior GWM WEY 05

The interior is completely digital. The driver faces a digital instrument cluster, while a large infotainment screen is centrally located. There is also a separate screen for climate settings. Equipment includes adaptive cruise control, lane assist, a head-up display with augmented reality functionality and various active safety systems.
