Spotted: a McLaren 600LT Spider

October 4, 2024

The McLaren 600LT we spotted is part of the McLaren Sports Series.
This is irreverently called the brand’s series of entry-level models.
The Sports Series consists of the 540C, 570S, 570GT, 600LT, 620R and Artura.
Except for the Artura, these are actually all versions of the same car.
The models are named after their (rounded) power output in horsepower.
The Sports Series began in 2015 with the McLaren 570S and then expanded.

The McLaren 600LT

The McLaren 600LT was added to the lineup in 2018 as a new flagship model.
Technically, the 600LT is obviously closely related to the 570S, but its 3.8-liter V8 delivers a higher power output of 441 kW (600 hp).
As the letters LT indicate, the 600LT also has a more than seven centimeters longer rear end.
In addition, there are some other aerodynamic modifications, such as a larger front splitter and diffuser.
Furthermore, more carbon fiber has been used and the carbon fiber monocoque also differs slightly from the other models.
All in all, the 600LT is almost 100 kg lighter than the 570S and is said to have 23% different parts compared to the “standard” 570S.

McLaren 600LT also as a Spider

In 2019, the range was expanded with the McLaren 600LT Spider.
Since the 600LT gets its strength from the monocoque, the open roof is actually the only difference between the Spider and the “coupe.
Also, the Spider has virtually the same performance figures in terms of acceleration and top speed.
As the top model of the series, the 600LT was surpassed later in 2019 by the 620R, a street-legal version of the 570S GT4 race car.
The 600LT remained part of the Sports Series until production ceased for all models in 2021, with the aforementioned Artura as its indirect successor.

The spotted specimen

On the A2 the other day we saw this McLaren 600LT.
With German license plates from the Saarbrücken region, so we do not have information about the year of manufacture or other specifications of this particular specimen.
However, we do have extra many photos this time, so the McLaren can be admired from almost all angles.
