Smart will introduce its largest-ever model next year
Smart #5
The #5 is not – as you probably expect – the brand’s fifth model since the company became a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely in 2020, but the third new model.
The stern five stands above the small #1 and the compact #3.
The new model will be introduced in Asia this fall and come to Europe in spring 2025.
Large
The Smart #5 has a robust and angular design and sits on the platform of parent company Geely.
Although the car is built in China, the design comes from Mercedes-Benz in Germany.
The model is Smart’s first foray into the mid-size SUV segment.
The #5 will compete with cars such as the Tesla Model Y, Volkswagen ID.4 and Skoda Enyaq.
Three screens
The #5’s interior features three screens, including a 10.3-inch instrument panel and two 13-inch displays.
In addition, the car features a 25.6-inch augmented reality head-up display and a digital assistant that guides drivers through the infotainment system.
The car has a 100 kWh battery that allows it to travel about 740 kilometers on one charge, according to the Chinese CLTC method, although this often deviates from reality.
In practice, you can count on about 450 to 550 real kilometers.
The brand promises that the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 15 minutes.
