50 Years of BMW Art Car Collection
“This year, the BMW Art Car Collection celebrates no less than 50 years of artistic freedom and visionary design. The twenty vehicles have become international icons and tell stories about society, technology and performance,” said Ilka Horstmeier, Board Member for Human Resources and Real Estate at BMW Group. To add extra strength to the 50th anniversary of the BMW Art Cars, all the cars are going around the world in the form of the BMW Art Car World Tour.
BMW Art Car World Tour
The BMW Art Car World Tour kicks off in Europe and Asia. On March 20-21, BMW Art Cars by Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, David Hockney and Jeff Koons will be exhibited at the Museum of Applied Arts and the SPARK Art Fair in Vienna for the BMW Group Niederlassung Wien event “(R)Evolution of Art.” The newest and 20th BMW Art Car – the BMW M Hybrid V8 by famed American painter Julie Mehretu – will tour Asia and be exhibited at Art Basel in Hong Kong from March 28-30.
The BMW Art Car World Tour is also visiting the Netherlands. “No fewer than eight Art Cars are coming to the Louwman Museum this summer, including the M3 GT2, 850 CSI and M1 Procar,” says Sjoerd van Bilsen, Curator at the Louwman Museum. This exhibition lasts from July 4 through August 31.
Which cars are coming to the Netherlands? They are the following list:

More exhibitions in 2025 and 2026
The Louwman Museum has even more in store for 2025 and 2026, Van Bilsen can confirm. “A tip of the hat, later this year – around November – there will be a mini-exhibition of sports cars, followed by a winter exhibition from mid-December through the end of January. Think motorsports. Around Pentecost 2026, we will celebrate the anniversary of a special gran turismo. Those details remain under wraps for now,” Van Bilsen concludes.
