Review – Xpeng P7 and XPeng G9, worth considering?
Car brand with tech background
Although the brand name may require some getting used to, it soon becomes apparent that in an XPeng you are soon at ease. You can also clearly see from which corner XPeng has made his mark. The company is publicly traded and originally has a tech background. That tech edge is also abundantly clear in the brand’s models. XPeng kicks off with the P7, a sporty electric sedan. The larger G9 SUV – also fully electric – is also directly on the Dutch price lists. The G6 is expected to follow in the near future. The G6 is an electric SUV coupe.
Thick 200 orders
During our first introduction to XPeng, there were two models on hand: the P7 and G9. With these two models, the brand is primarily targeting the business market in the Netherlands, as the models are still too expensive for most individuals. You may doubt that approach, of course, but the fact is that over 200 orders have now been written for XPeng’s models. Delivery of the P7 (sedan) will begin in July 2023, followed by the G9 SUV in October 2023.
“Thanks to the appearance, equipment, (charging) performance and attractive pricing of our two new electric models, the XPENG P7 and G9, we are convinced that we have an interesting and competitive offer for the business driver in particular who is considering a new electric car,” said Jasper Koek, PR Manager of XPeng in the Netherlands. Lots of news on the way
So count on seeing models of XPeng appearing on the streets before long. All the way into the future, because this brand has decided not to sit still. A new model comes out every 12 to 18 months, with the G6 becoming the next in the lineup. The brand kicks off in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and the Netherlands because these countries have good charging infrastructure. The European headquarters is located in Amsterdam.
XPeng’s success in the Netherlands is mainly determined by pricing. Prices now hover between 50 and 70 grand. If this brand is also to convince individuals, models with a significantly lower starting price are needed, a bit like BYD – another Chinese party – has also understood well. XPeng has indicated it wants to look at these segments as well.
XPeng P7 and G9
For now, we have to make do with the P7 and G9 in the Netherlands. What stands out about these models? They give a “European” impression. That is, a nice finish and fine handling. Because the battery pack is low in the models, the models also have good handling. The fine seats also stand out. Everything is completely customizable in an XPeng, including the alertness of the accelerator pedal or steering, for example. If desired, driving via one-pedal-driving is possible, exactly as you would expect in a modern electric car.
There are still beeping horns coming from driver assistance systems. XPeng has indicated a desire to limit those sounds for the European market, as they are perceived as disruptive here. Also still missing are Apple Carplay and Android Auto, but that is being worked on.
Smooth infotainment system
Both models have a crisp camera and a smooth infotainment system. Like Tesla, an XPeng can play music on the outside of the car. Nice for camping. The models also have and digital assistant that wakes you to life by saying “Hey Xpeng.
Those looking for real space would be better off choosing the G9. It has a substantial luggage space and, of course, a high seat. Still, we now prefer the P7. Preferably with wing doors. Yes, you read that right. Although optional, they do make the P7 a unique electric sedan. Not even Tesla can beat that. Of course, those wing doors are a fun gimmick, but cool it is.
Specifications XPeng P7
So what about the specifications of both models? Underneath, the XPeng P7 has a 98 kWh battery with 800V silicon carbide (SiC) technology. Fast charging up to 175 kW is possible with this. The battery charges from 10 to 80% in 29 minutes with this technology. The range comes out to 576 kilometers (WLTP) for the P7 RWD Long Range. The AWD version of the XPENG P7 sprints from 0-100 km/h in 4.1 seconds, while the rear-wheel-drive variant requires 6.7 seconds. Things like a power tailgate, soft-close doors, a heat pump and a heatable steering wheel are standard.
Specifications XPeng G9
The XPeng G9 is also a true powerhouse. Also in this SUV – equipped with air suspension as standard – the brand applies a 98 kWh battery, only this car can fast charge with powers up to 300 kW. This allows the battery to charge from 10 to 80% in just 20 minutes, nice! The range of the G9 RWD Long Range is 570 kilometers (WLTP). The AWD version has an output of 405 kW (551 hp) and maximum torque of 717 Nm. That results in a 0-100 time of 3.9 seconds.
Warranty XPeng
Important for a new brand are also the warranty terms. XPeng supplies its models standard with a 5-year/120,000-km factory warranty. Customers who purchase a new XPENG G9 between Feb. 3 and Dec. 31, 2023, will still benefit from an extended manufacturer’s warranty of 7 years/160,000 km. This extended warranty is tied to the vehicle and transferable to a subsequent owner.

Conclusion review XPeng
Does XPeng have a right to exist in the Netherlands? Absolute! The brand makes a good first impression with high-quality cars and the local approach. You can take this brand seriously. Here and there the brand still needs to dot the “i’s”, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the products themselves. Now the question is: Would you leave a Tesla Model 3 or Polestar 2 for an XPeng P7? Or a Model Y for an XPeng G9? Or do you still go for a BYD, Seres, Aiways, Hongqi, Nio or MG? Indeed, the supply of Chinese BEVs in the Netherlands has never been greater. Xuǎnzé shì jùdà de. That’s Chinese for “the choice is vast.
