Review: solid update for Ford Puma (2024)

September 6, 2024

Design Ford Puma 2024

The exterior design of the new Ford Puma 2024 features the new Ford logo, flanked by new headlights with a new “claw” light signature.
The Titanium version has a chrome-free grille.
The Puma ST-Line has a sportier-looking front design.
At the rear of the Ford Puma, hardly anything has been changed.
We detect a different bumper and the exhaust is gone.
The Puma is available in six eye-catching colors, including the new Cactus Grey.
Other colors include Frozen White, Solar Silver, Desert Island Blue, Agate Black and Fantastic Red.

New dashboard

No, for the biggest news you really need to get in.
In the interior of the Ford Puma bespeak a revised dashbaord.
The new Puma features a 12.8-inch digital instrument panel that the driver can personalize to display only information useful to the driver.
A 12-inch horizontally positioned center display with floating effect is placed high on the center console and facing the driver to improve readability.

SYNC 4

Also new is the arrival of a SYNC 4 cloud-connected infotainment system with 5G connectivity.
This system uses a “floating” 12-inch center screen and a sculpture-like soundbar.
Of course, there is wireless support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The SYNC 4 system’s central display includes controls for climate control and seat heating, reducing the number of physical buttons on the center console.
Thanks to Ford Software Update – better known as over the air updates – you don’t have to go to the dealer for updates.

New upholstery

There is also a dedicated smartphone drop-off area with an induction charger for fast, wireless charging of smartphones on the go.
A standard 5G modem provides connectivity on the go.
For music lovers, Ford provides an optional B&O audio system with 10 speakers.
Other updates include ambient lighting and new furniture finishes.
The seats, steering wheel and new sliding armrest are finished in Sensico material with Cool Grey stitching for Titanium models and distinctive red stitching for ST-Line variants.
An acoustically laminated windshield also adds to the interior’s refinement.
Ford provides an optional panoramic glass roof for additional interior light.

Megabox

The clever MegaBox in the luggage compartment has remained.
This handy 80-liter storage space – integrated under the luggage floor – allows you to transport items up to about 115 cm high upright in the trunk, think a houseplant or two sets of golf clubs. The MegaBox also accommodates wet or muddy items, as the compartment is easily cleaned with water. Water drains quickly thanks to the built-in drain. The Ford Puma’s luggage space comes out to 456 liters with the rear seats in the normal position.

Driver assistance systems

In terms of driver assistance systems, the Puma also makes some strides.
You can think of Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, as well as Lane Centering and Predictive Speed Assist that can preemptively adjust vehicle speed in curves, at traffic circles and when entering and exiting highways.
There is also a cross-traffic alert system.

Reverse Brake Assist is also new to the Puma.
If the vehicle detects a stationary object such as a pedestrian, bicycle, traffic pole or other vehicle, it alerts the driver and the system can brake to avoid or mitigate a collision.
A 360-degree camera system is available as an option.
This surroundview camera system displays on the center screen an image from above the vehicle in bird’s eye view, allowing the driver to see objects and obstacles not otherwise visible from the car.

Speed Alert

The mandatory speed warning is easily turned off by pressing the “LIM” button on the steering wheel.
On the digital dashboard, you then see a bar fill up to quickly disable the system.
Prevents a lot of annoyance on the road.
Lane assist can also be quickly turned off.
Nice that Ford makes this possible in a low-threshold way.

Powertrains Ford Puma 2024 and Ford Puma 2025

The Ford Puma is available with two powertrains.
Power from the 1.0-liter EcoBoost Hybrid 48-volt mild hybrid engine is 92 kW (125 hp) for the Puma Titanium, ST-Line and ST-Line X specification.
There is a choice of a six-speed manual transmission or Powershift automatic.
If you choose the Puma ST Powershift, you get a 1.0-liter EcoBoost powertrain with 125 kW (170 hp).
An all-electric Ford Puma – named Ford Puma Gen-E – will follow later.
It will be unveiled in the fourth quarter of 2024.
The car can then be ordered immediately.
Delivery will then start in the first quarter of 2025.
This car is on the platform of the Courier.
Possibly the model will get 136 hp and 290 Nm and a 54 kWh battery pack.
And charging will then be done with 11 kW AC and 100 kW DC.
But to clarify, that is our expectation.
Perhaps the powertrain still differs.

Driving the Ford Puma

Driving the Ford Puma is still a treat, at least if you like sporty driving.
In fact, the car is quite stiff, especially as an ST-Line or real ST.
If you want more comfort, choose the Titanium.
It is a bit softer.
If you like dynamics, it is better to choose an ST-Line.
Steering is nice and direct and the steering also provides sufficient feedback.
The seats are comfortable, but the seats are on the short side.
Some extra sound insulation in the wheel arches would be desirable, but the outgoing Puma model also suffered from that.
In any case, the Puma remains one of the nicest handling cars in the B-crossover segment.

Prices Ford Puma 2024

The new Ford Puma is available for order immediately.
Prices start at 32,995 euros for the Puma 1.0 EcoBoost Hybrid Titanium.
As a Ford Puma ST-Line X with Powershift automatic you should think about 38,995 euros.
The Puma ST Powershift with 170 hp starts at 45,695 euros.
