Review – Morgan Super 3 (2024), how much fun is it really?
What makes the Morgan Super 3 special?
The Morgan Super 3 is already special to look at, but it also has a special configuration.
Like the 3 Wheeler, it has one wheel at the rear and two wheels at the front.
The Morgan 3 Wheeler used an S&S V-Twin.
In itself a nice powertrain, but a bit “shaky.
The Super 3 has a Ford three-cylinder with a much smoother run.
This Morgan is further unique in that it is hand built in Malvern.
That takes Morgan about two days.
Sometimes a little longer, if the customer has extensive personalization requirements.
Because that’s the nice thing about a Morgan: the vehicles can be personalized down to the smallest detail.
Of course, you get to pay for that.
How does such a Super 3 drive?
The car – because that’s what it is – drives instantly familiar.
Just like the Morgan 3 Wheeler, for that matter.
It all looks rather spartan, but once you are seated and on the road, you can read and write with this machine.
It is as honest as gold and lays pretty good on the road.
Because you have a perfect view of the nose, you can place the Morgan Super 3 excellently on the road.
The driving experience is especially pure.
You go back to the basics, but you get an awful lot of character in return.
The seating position is surprisingly good.
Taller riders would be wise to have windshields fitted so your face is just a little better protected.
Wearing good sunglasses or helmet is recommended anyway, especially when riding faster.
What kind of technology does a Super 3 have?
The Morgan Super 3 features a 1.5-liter atmospheric three-cylinder Ford gasoline engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission taken from the Mazda MX-5.
There is a choice of chain drive or – at extra cost – a belt that requires less maintenance.
Ford’s so-called Dragon three-cylinder has an output of 90 kW (122 hp) and gives the Super 3 a 0-100 time of 7 seconds.
The base of the Morgan Super 3 is formed by a bonded aluminum Superformed monocoque platform.
For the first time in Morgan’s history, the platform is a true monocoque.
This results in a lighter and stiffer chassis, but also shortens production time and provides more space for passengers on board.
Are there any alternatives to a Super 3?
Well, then you really do end up with models from Caterham.
You won’t find another three-wheeler in Europe, unless you choose an older Polaris Slingshot.
Also nice, but it has much less character compared to this Morgan.
The Super 3 has a certain charm, an appeal.
It simply looks áf.
A Caterham Seven is also awesome, but offers a much sharper driving experience.
The Super 3 is a car for touring, a Caterham offers both touring and racing capabilities.
What does a Morgan Super 3 cost?
This Morgan has a starting price of 69,999 euros, but that price easily rises to over 100,000 euros.
Options abound.
For example, you can spend an extra 4,600 euros on paint alone.
For a Livery Pack you have to think of about 2,500 euros.
Would you like Morgan to record the construction of your own car in a personalized photo book?
Then check the option ‘Photographic build record’.
Does cost 1,075 euros, but believe us: it is absolutely worth it.
Basically, you can keep the following: in the Netherlands, for a common Super 3 with LED lighting, heating, leather, a nice color and some luggage racks, you will spend around 85,000 euros.
Can we recommend the Super 3?
Absolute! 200 percent even!
The Morgan Super 3 is one of the nicest “gadgets” you can buy.
It offers a unique driving experience and attracts tremendous attention.
It is the ultimate strolling mobile in which you can enjoy life together.
Ford’s new 1.5-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine is a “perfect match” with this Morgan.
It is a better and, more importantly, finer powertrain compared to the S&S V-twin in the 3 Wheeler.
Granted, even that 3 Wheeler is a great experience, but in the Super 3 everything feels more off.
