Renewed Cupra Leon is almost an electric car
Cupra Leon
Thanks to a facelift, the Cupa Leon and Leon Sportstourer are no longer almost exact copies of the Seat Leon. You will recognize the updated model by the all-new sharknose front with three angular LED units in the headlights and a solid central air intake. At the rear are continuous LED taillights, which also feature integrated triangular shapes, and an illuminating Cupra logo in the center. The two-tone rear bumper adds an extra touch of sportiness. Depending on the chosen trim and extras, the Leon comes with 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels. Customers have a choice of nine different exterior colors, including Century Bronze Matt and Enceladus Grey Matt.
Lowered seating position
Inside, the Cupra flaunts a multi-function supersport steering wheel and standard sport or bucket seats that put you in a lowered seating position for an extra sporty driving experience. Sustainability is paramount with many recycled materials and leathers treated in an environmentally friendly way. The dashboard catches the eye with an eye-catching 3D pattern and there are copper or dark chrome accents. The infotainment screen has grown a (considerable) size – to 12.9-inches – and an optional Sennheiser audio system with 11 speakers, a subwoofer and a 390-watt amplifier is available as an option.
Electric driving
As in the updated Formentor, Cupra also spoons new eHybrid plug-in hybrid technology from the Volkswagen Group into the Leon. The powertrain combines a 1.5 TSI turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor and a DSG automatic transmission, available in two performance variants: 150 kW/204 hp and 200 kW/272 hp. Thanks to a 19.7 kWh battery pack, the electric range grows to more than 100 km. The plug-in hybrid Leon can even fast charge: up to 50 kW. At home, charging is also faster from now on, up to 11 kW. The new Cupra Leon and Leon Sportstourer will be on-tour along the Dutch Cupa Garages starting May 1. Ahead of its market launch this summer, Cupra will announce exact specifications and prices.
