Renault 5 Turbo 3E sells like hot cakes in the Netherlands
Many Porsche drivers
Striking detail: among the buyers are remarkably many Porsche drivers, we have learned from Renault. Apparently, besides a 911 or Taycan, there is room in the garage for an extremely wide, all-electric Renault with rally genes from the 1980s. Or how about a poison green Porsche 911 GT3 with gold wheels and then a Renault 5 Turbo 3E in matching livery. If money is no object…
From 160,000 euros and then it only begins
The Renault 5 Turbo 3E gets a starting price of 160,000 euros in the Netherlands, excluding personalization. Let personalization be an important part of the story. Renault makes it clear that the amount can easily go towards – and over – 200,000 euros if you go wild in the customization program. Think unique paint colors, historic rally liveries or even a matching luggage set from Louis Vuitton. Yes, really. The Renault 5 Turbo 3E targets not the bargain hunter, but the collector who wants something special.
There is no limit on numbers per country. So anyone who wants a production spot should be especially quick. The reservation entitles one to a spot in the production schedule, not directly to a specified car. Renault is producing a total of 1,980 units, a reference to the introduction year of the original Renault 5 Turbo.

Special customer journey in 2026
In the first half of 2026, Renault will start a special “customer journey” for buyers. That is when they will be allowed to fully configure their Renault 5 Turbo 3E. Renault promises a unique experience around configuration and personalization, befitting the exclusive nature of the model. That means: not just a quick tick in an online configurator, but a journey in which color schemes, materials and details are tuned to perfection.
Technical specifications Renault 5 Turbo 3E
The Renault 5 Turbo 3E is not a regular Renault 5 with some extra power. It is a completely newly developed, extremely wide and radically engineered electric sports car inspired by the iconic Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2 from the 1980s.
Key technical data:
- Drive: two electric motors on the rear wheels (rear-wheel drive)
- Power: approximately 540 hp
- Torque: more than 4,000 Nm of wheel torque
- Battery: about 70 kWh
- 0-100 km/h: around 3.5 seconds
- Top speed: approximately 270 km/h
- Architecture: 800-volt
- Fast charging: up to about 350 kW
- Weight: around 1,450 kg
- Length: approximately 4.08 meters
- Width: approximately 2.03 meters
The electric motors are integrated into the rear wheels, providing extremely direct response and advanced torque vectoring. The platform was developed specifically for this model, with lightweight construction and a carbon fiber body. With its wide wheel arches, gigantic rear spoiler and compact length, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E is more like a street-legal rally car than a brave electric hatchback.

Collector’s item in the making
That the Netherlands in particular is responding so enthusiastically is striking. But given the rich history of the original Renault 5 Turbo in rallying and the current popularity of restomod-like projects, it is perhaps less surprising than it seems. The Renault 5 Turbo 3E is not a rational choice. It is an emotional purchase. A nod to the past, but with 800-volt technology and a fast-charging capability that is the envy of many an EV. If more than seventy Dutch people are willing to fork out 50,000 euros for a production seat, Renault seems to have struck just the right chord with this electric hooligan. Now let’s just hope we can drive one too.
