Porsche 911 GT3 also available as a family version
Porsche 911 GT3 in new
Besides a somewhat sharpened design, it is mainly technical improvements that stand out on the redesigned Porsche 911 GT3. Both GT3 versions feature a redesigned front diffuser and a redesigned spoiler lip.
Double wishbone front suspension
Porsche has equipped the double wishbone front suspension of the new Porsche 911 GT3 models with aerodynamically designed wishbones, with a droplet-shaped profile. “Especially at high speeds, they thereby increase the downward pressure in the wheel arches and at the same time improve the cooling of the brakes,” Porsche said.
Dive tendency
To ensure downward pressure even when decelerating from high speeds, Porsche’s engineers paid great attention to reducing the nose’s dive tendency. They achieved this by lowering the ball joint of the lower wishbone. The Porsche 911 GT3 RS also uses this solution.
Tires Porsche 911 GT3
The new Porsche 911 GT3 has 255/35 ZR 20 tires at the front and 315/30 ZR 21 tires at the rear. Track tires with street approval are optionally available.
Porsche 911 GT3 Touring
The 911 GT3 Touring is recognizable by the GT3 Touring logo on the rear grille. As with previous versions, the new Touring omits the large fixed rear wing. Instead of the rear wing, the 911 GT3 Touring has an automatic retractable rear spoiler with so-called Gurney flap.
Also with rear seats
For the first time, rear seats are also available. Brand ambassador Walter Röhrl says of the new 911 GT3 Touring: “Especially on twisty country roads, you notice that the steering feel has been improved even further. The steering now responds even more masterfully to input from the center position, without sacrificing precision. This gives the driver even more confidence in the car. The shorter gearbox ratios also contribute to driving pleasure.”
Lightweight
The new Porsche 911 GT3 puts maximum effort into lightweight construction. For example, the newly developed, silver aluminum wheels reduce unsprung weight by over 1.5 kg. The optional magnesium wheels, available with the Weissach or Leichtbau package, even offer a weight reduction of 9 kg. The 40 Ah lithium-ion battery reduces the weight by another 5 kg. In its lightest configuration, the new Porsche 911 GT3 therefore weighs just 1,420 kg.
Improved powertrain
The 911 GT3’s atmospheric 4.0-liter engine is equipped with two particulate filters and four catalytic converters to meet all environmental requirements. Through various improvements, including modifications to the cylinder head, sharper camshafts and optimized throttle valves and oil coolers, it offers extra dynamics at higher speeds. The maximum power output is 375 kW (510 hp). That means each horsepower has to move a weight of only 2.8 kg (valid for the lightest configuration).
Manual transmission or PDK
In addition, both the version with PDK and the manual transmission version have an 8% shorter final drive ratio. With PDK, the 911 GT3 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and the top speed is 311 km/h. Manual transmission versions accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.9 s and reach a top speed of 313 km/h.
Lightweight bucket seats
Optionally, the new Porsche 911 GT3 is available with a new lightweight bucket seat with a structure made of CFRP (carbon reinforced plastic). It has an integrated thorax airbag and multiple electric adjustments. A heating function is optional. Part of the headrest cover is removable. This improves ergonomics for riders who wear helmets on the track. The bucket seat backrest folds forward for optimal access to the optional rear seats. Instead of the bucket seat, 911 GT3 customers can also opt for the Adaptive Sport Seats Plus with 18-way power adjustment.
Safety cage
Unlike other 911 models, the GT3 is not started with a button, but by turning the key in the ignition. The optionally available safety cage further emphasizes the connection to motorsport. The digital instrument panel stands out with its clear display and control concept. Thanks to the color scheme with strong contrasts, the tachometer and stopwatch can be read at a glance. When using the “Track Screen,” the displays to the left and right of the tachometer are greatly reduced. Only important information about tires, oil, water and fuel is then visible. The shift indicator with “shift flash” is then also active. The tachometer can be rotated so that the start of the red line at 9,000 rpm coincides with the 12-hour mark on the steering wheel.
Weissach package for GT3, it can be done!
For the first time, the 911 GT3 is available with the Weissach package. This makes the car even more adaptable to personal needs in track use. The Weissach package includes many components made of CFRP such as the stabilizer bar, connecting rods and sliding panel of the rear axle, roof and sideplates of the rear wing. The trim of the exterior mirrors, the mirror triangle and the front airblades are also made of this lightweight but very strong plastic.
Racy interior
The interior of the 911 GT3 is finished with a combination of leather and Race-Tex. For the first time, the top of the dashboard is with Race-Tex that prevents glare. CFRP door handles and storage nets add to the lightweight design. Optional CFRP safety cage and cast magnesium wheels are available.
Leichtbau package
For the 911 GT3 Touring, the Leichtbau package is available. The roof, stabilizer bar, tie rods and rear axle sliding panel are then made of CFRP. Cast magnesium wheels and lightweight door panels are also part of this package. The six-speed manual transmission version has the short gearshift of the 911 S/T. In front of that gear lever is a plaque with “Leichtbau” inscription.
Clubsport package
The 911 GT3 with rear wing can be supplied with the Clubsport package at no extra charge. Included here are a steel safety cage in the rear, a six-point seat belt for the driver and a compact fire extinguisher. The Clubsport package can only be ordered in combination with the lightweight bucket seats.
The new Porsche 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 Touring will be available for order starting at the end of this year. Prices will follow.
