Police on school trip hand out 243 fines in Brabant

February 28, 2025

Lookout

Police in West Brabant held a major check against distracted driving on Feb. 25. Using 35 officers, 14 tracking vehicles and a touring car as a mobile lookout, they checked for distracted driving. The result? As many as 243 fines, 216 of which were for holding a phone.

A coach as a secret weapon

For those who thought the police only search for calling drivers from an ordinary patrol car: think again. This time, officers were deployed in a tour bus, as a mobile observation post. Thanks to the elevated seating position, officers were able to catch drivers in the act. The blue bus passengers were also able to catch truck drivers paying a little too much attention to their screens.

The hard-nosed driver of the day

Some drivers needed an extra lesson. For example, one driver passed police at multiple locations and times, both times with his phone in his hand. That earned him not one, but two fines of 439 euros each. An expensive (gr)app.

From ignoring red lights to honking unnecessarily

In addition to the phone users, other traffic sinners were caught. For example, nine drivers were fined for speeding, three drove through red lights, and someone was honking for no apparent reason. They were all ticketed. The message is clear: leave your phone alone and keep your attention on the road. The police are watching, including from a coach.
