Police chase ‘F1 car’ on A27: “Have you ever seen a Formula One car on the freeway?”
Viral
Within eight days, the YouTube video of a chase of a mystery race car on the A27 was viewed over 700,000 times. The officers in the video think they are dealing with a Formula One car. “Have you ever seen a Formula One car on the highway,” we hear the officer in the video say to the emergency room. “No, never before. I assume on a trailer?” is the response.
BAC Mono
Although the car does indeed have traits of an F1 car, this is a car from the small British manufacturer Briggs Automotive Company: the BAC Mono. The Mono offers driver-only space, weighs about 600 pounds and is powered by a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with more than 300 horsepower. As a result, the car has not only the appearance, but also almost the corresponding performance of an F1 car. However, the BAC Mono meets all European emission and noise standards and is simply street legal. However, the driver in the video drives over a continuous line and that is not legal, so the police pull him over and fine him.
