Peugeot 2008 and e-2008 drastically updated: here’s what you need to know!
Peugeot 2008: a success number
With nearly 700,000 units produced, the Peugeot 2008 has always had a place among the top three best-selling models in the B-SUV segment in Europe since its launch in 2019, with even a first-place finish in 2021. The electric Peugeot e-2008 is also popular. That one has already been produced more than 75,000 times since 2019.
Design Peugeot 2008
What stands out about the updated Peugeot 2008? Anyway, the modified front end with the new Peugeot emblem prominently displayed in the grille. The front looks wider and the grille has a grille with a specific sideways pattern that matches the new light signature. On Active versions, the horizontal elements in the grille are finished in gloss black. On Allure and GT versions, the grille has a vertical pattern in the body color with subtle dark inserts.
New light signature
After the updated Peugeot 508, the 2008 is the second model where the brand applies the new light signature. It is characterized by three vertical light claws integrated into the gloss black inserts on the bumper. All versions of the new 2008 have this new light signature. In the GT version, the signature of the three claws continues for the first time in the LED headlights with three light modules. This design distinguishes the GT version from the rest of the range.
Design backside
The rear of the new 2008 also features a new light signature; a reinterpretation of the three claws theme that is characteristic of Peugeot. Now three superimposed horizontal double slats were chosen. The taillights and turn signals are also LED.
Peugeot 2008 colors
The new Peugeot 2008 will be introduced in Gris Selenium, a new color added to the available color palette. Also new is the Blanc Okenite. There are six body colors to choose from: Gris Selenium, Gris Artense, Blanc Okenite, Noir Perla Nera, Rouge Elixir and Bleu Vertigo.
Field Designs
The new Peugeot 2008 features strikingly styled alloy wheels, in line with those of the Peugeot 408. Several variants are available: 16-inch Noma wheels for the Active version, 17-inch Karakoy wheels for the Allure and GT versions or 18-inch Evissa wheels that are optional for the GT. All alloy wheels feature a four-spoke center with Peugeot emblem, in which the wheel nuts are completely concealed.
Logos
The logo on the back has been replaced with the brand name, finished in Basalt Grey. The letters of the Peugeot name are spread across the full width of the central black strip, making the rear optically wider. The type markings on the front and sides of the new 2008 also have this font and Basalt Grey color. The ‘E’ of the e-2008 comes in Bleu Dichroic and Blanc.
Upholstery
All versions of the 2008 have new covers for the seats. The design illustrates the step up in quality and luxury. Just as the new optional Alcantara trim does for the GT version.
Peugeot i-Cockpit
The Peugeot i-Cockpit has also been updated. The steering wheel features the new logo in the center. The GT version features a badge on the lower part of the steering wheel rim. It also houses the switches for the multimedia system (audio, phone) and volume and voice controls. At eye level, just above the steering wheel, is the instrument panel, which is digital on the Allure and GT versions. This 10-inch display received a new design and features a 3D display on the GT version. The screen is fully customizable.
10-inch touchscreen
All 2008 models come standard with a 10-inch central touchscreen (previously 7 inches on the first two trim levels). On Allure and GT versions, it is a high-definition touchscreen. It allows control of radio and telephone functions (Active version) or the latest generation infotainment systems Peugeot i-Connect and Peugeot i-Connect Advanced. Below the central screen are sophisticated “piano keys” for the most important functions.
Peugeot i-Connect
The new 2008 Allure trim now comes standard with the Peugeot i-Connect system, while the GT trim can be optionally equipped with the Peugeot i-Connect Advanced system. In either case, the system can be controlled via the central 10-inch high-definition touchscreen. This is fully customizable – with multiple screen layouts and widgets (or shortcuts) that are easy to use – and responds like a tablet. It is easy to swipe through the menus from left to right or up and down for notifications, or with a three-finger tap to bring up the home page. As on a smartphone, it is possible to return to the main page at any time by pressing the “Home” piano button.
At the top of the screen, a permanent bar provides information about the outside temperature, air conditioning, position in the widget pages, connectivity data, notifications and the time. Peugeot i-Connect Advanced is equipped with a TomTom connected navigation system. The system is updated “over the air,” or by sending data directly over the telecom network.
OK Peugeot
The car also has the natural voice recognition “OK Peugeot. The system accepts all requests related to the infotainment functions. To assist the user and answer questions, the system includes on-board documentation and instructions.
Pairing of smartphones
Smartphones pair wirelessly with the in-car infotainment system for access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is possible to simultaneously pair two phones via Bluetooth. The Allure and GT versions have three USB connectors (two USB-C in the front and one USB-A in the second row of seats), completing the Peugeot 2008’s “connected” setup. With the Active trim, the 2008 has one USB-C connector in the front, while the e-2008 also has a USB-C connector and a USB-A connector in the rear.
The new 2008 Allure can be equipped with an optional 15 W (previously 5 W) wireless smartphone charger. This is standard in the GT. It is located behind the flap in the center console.
HD camera
New front and rear parking assist cameras on the Peugeot 2008 now offer high-definition imaging. Depending on the trim level, the high-definition front camera (coupled with blind spot warning) is available as an option. This provides a 360-degree view of the car’s immediate surroundings; a valuable help when parking.
Mood lighting
The ambient lighting in the interior of the new 2008 GT can be customized in eight different colors, including some new colors. In addition, the ambient lighting is connected to the touchscreen, so selecting a particular driving mode extends the atmosphere throughout the interior.
Grip Control
The Peugeot 2008 comes with Grip Control with up to three driving modes: sand, mud and snow. In models with the manual transmission, there is a redesigned gear knob with improved ergonomics. The elegant and practical control lever for automatic transmission models remains unchanged from the outgoing model.
Powertrains
Peugeot is producing the updated 2008 at its plant in Vigo, Spain. The market launch is in the summer of 2023 and there will be three versions – Active, Allure, GT – and four engines, including a new all-electric engine of 115 kW (156 hp) with a range of up to 406 km (WLTP). In 2024, the range will be expanded with the arrival of a new 48V HYBRID.
Peugeot e-2008
The all-electric Peugeot e-2008 gets even further thanks to a new electric motor. Maximum power is up 15%, from 100 kW (136 hp) to 115 kW (156 hp), while battery capacity has been increased from 50 kWh to 54 kWh. The range increases to 406 km compared to 345 km previously (WLTP).
48V Hybrid powertrain
Beginning in 2024, the Peugeot 2008 will also be available with a new 48V Hybrid powertrain. That consists of a new generation 100 kW (136 hp) PureTech gasoline engine coupled to a new electrified dual-clutch automatic transmission with six transmissions. Thanks to the 48V battery, which is charged while driving, and the integrated (starter-generator) electric motor, this new powertrain offers extra torque at low speeds. Moreover, consumption is up to 15% lower and there is also less CO2 emission. The Hybrid system allows 100% electric and emission-free driving more than 50% of the time, for example on trips in built-up areas.
For the Dutch market, three internal combustion engines are available in the new Peugeot 2008:
- PureTech 100: 74 kW (100 hp) 1.2-liter PureTech three-cylinder gasoline engine, combined with a six-speed manual transmission and a Start & Stop system.
- PureTech 130 EAT8: 96 kW (130 hp) 1.2-liter PureTech three-cylinder gasoline engine, combined with the 8-speed EAT8 automatic transmission and a Start & Stop system.
- BlueHDi 130 EAT8: 96 kW (130 hp) 1.5-liter four-cylinder diesel engine, combined with the 8-speed EAT8 automatic transmission and a Start & Stop system.
Driver assistance systems
These driver assistance systems are present in the Peugeot 2008 and Peugeot e-2008.
- adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function and adjustable distance from other moving vehicles
- Automatic Emergency Braking with collision warning: detects pedestrians and cyclists, day and night, at 7 to 140 km/h (depending on version)
- comprehensive recognition and display of traffic signs on the digital instrumentation: stop signs, one-way traffic signs, (end of) overtaking prohibitions, in addition to the usual speed indications
- Active Lane Departure Warning with Lane Correction
- Driver Attention Alert, which detects impaired driver alertness by analyzing micro-movements of the steering wheel over a long driving period at speeds above 65 km/h (62 mph)
- blind spot warning
- Improved traction with Grip Control with up to three driving modes: sand, mud and snow.
