Opel is (finally) building another fat offroader!
Mountain Goat
Last year, Opel revived the Frontera name, and the SUV is now about to arrive at dealerships. It looks pretty tough, but feels just a little less rugged than the original Frontera from the 1990s – you know, the one based on the Isuzu Rodeo. Not that the original Frontera was a mountain goat, but in our memory, cars from the past are always a bit better than they really were.
New Opel Frontera
Anyway: the Frontera is back! This time as a neat family SUV with a hybrid or electric powertrain. Yet Opel wants to make it clear that there is still a touch of adventure in this model. That’s why they joined forces with motorsport partners BlackFish and XS for a rugged makeover. The result: the Frontera Gravel.
Sandy
This show car is cloaked in a sandy wrap called “Desert Stone. The hood and roof are matte black, which contrasts nicely with the bright orange accents on the mirrors, bumpers and even the Opel logo. Then the lighting: four additional spotlights on the hood and another pair on the roof. These are mounted on a Thule roof rack that looks like you could easily fit a tent, a barbecue and the complete inventory of a mountain bike store on it.

Winch
The wheels were specially selected for this model: 16-inch Borbet rims with off-road tires. In the unlikely event that you get stuck with these, there is a winch with hook on the front to pull you out again. Another storage box is mounted on the side so you don’t have to throw your survival gear or picnic gear loose in the trunk.

Austria
Before you run to the Opel dealer with your wallet at the ready: unfortunately, the Frontera Gravel is not a production model, but a concept car. A cool show car, meant to show what is possible with the newest Frontera. Still want to admire it in real life? From May 28 to June 1, the Gravel will be at XS Carnight in Klagenfurt – an event for tuning enthusiasts. Friday, May 30, is the official unveiling.
