No joke: this supercar was auctioned off on the air
15,772,773.78 euros
After that, things got even crazier. The auction itself led to a bidding war between collectors in the room and bidders from the other side of the world. The hammer finally fell at $20,630,000, or 15,772,773.78 euros, making the S1 LM officially the most expensive new car ever sold at auction (excluding charity sales).
The most extraordinary customer experience ever
The buyer can look forward to more than just owning an extremely rare supercar. Gordon Murray Special Vehicles couples a complete program with it. The new owner gets personal sessions with Professor Gordon Murray CBE himself to specify every detail of the car. Then development rides are scheduled with multiple IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti, to further hone the tuning.

Access to the GMSV team
In addition, the buyer receives exclusive access to the GMSV team, including participation in the latest development work. The trail concludes with a 500-page monograph book full of sketches, technical notes and handwritten comments from Murray’s own design notebook.
Gordon Murray calls the record sales “a defining moment for the entire team and for the automotive world” and sees the S1 LM as the ultimate expression of six decades of automotive design: “a pure form of mature perfection, engineering art and a return to beauty.”

The S1 LM: The Special One
The S1 LM harkens back to the iconic McLaren F1 LM, also a creation from the mind of Gordon Murray. The model represents the first and most exclusive project of Gordon Murray Special Vehicles, with only five units in total. The highlights don’t lie: a body constructed entirely of carbon fiber, an atmospheric 4.3-liter V12 delivering 529 kW (720 hp) at 12,100 rpm, a six-speed manual transmission and race-inspired but street-oriented suspension. The interior consists of Naked Polish Carbon Fibre and unique handcrafting.
During Monterey Car Week 2025, it was revealed that one buyer has obtained all five examples. Further silence remains about the four remaining chassis – except that #1 has since made history. In Las Vegas, suspended under a helicopter.
