New Mercedes-Benz GLB is a space wonder

December 8, 2025

Electric versions with 800V system

Introduced in 2026, two all-electric variants of the new Mercedes-Benz GLB take center stage: the GLB 250+ and the GLB 350 4Matic. Both models use EQ technology and a lithium-ion battery with a usable capacity of 85 kWh. The GLB 250+ delivers 200 kW (272 hp) and achieves a WLTP range of up to 630 kilometers. The GLB 350 4Matic reaches 260 kW (354 hp) and features an electric motor on the front axle that switches on at lightning speed as soon as additional traction is needed.

The 800V system is a key technical differentiator. This platform allows sufficient energy to be recharged in just ten minutes for up to 260 kilometers of additional range according to WLTP. Fast charging is possible with a capacity of up to 320 kW at suitable 800V charging stations, while charging via 400V infrastructure is possible in combination with the optional DC inverter. AC charging goes up to 22 kW.

Expansion

Mercedes-Benz confirms that additional battery-electric variants will follow later, including an entry-level version and a range of hybrids. The hybrid models get 48V technology, an electric motor integrated into the transmission and appear in three power levels with a choice of front-wheel drive or 4Matic. Under certain conditions, these models can run fully electric and recover energy.

Spacious interior, large luggage capacity

The new Mercedes-Benz GLB offers more headroom in the first two rows of seats than its predecessor. This is created by the SUV roofline and the standard panoramic roof. Rear passengers benefit from additional legroom, while seating comfort in the second row increases due to improved thigh support.

The model features a remarkably spacious front luggage compartment. At 127 liters, or 104 liters according to the ISO 3832 standard, the electric CAP’s frunk offers the largest capacity within the new model family. According to the German car brand, there is enough room for a crate of drinks, three footballs or a compact tent in the frunk. Rear luggage space is 540 liters in the five-seater and 480 liters in the seven-seater. When the rear seats are folded down, this increases to 1,715 and 1,605 liters, respectively.

This variability creates an interior suitable for a variety of usage scenarios, from family trips to moving house or vacations with lots of luggage. For families, the CAP also offers room for up to four child seats in the second and third rows, while a child seat can also be placed on the front passenger seat.

4Matic and off-road functions for light off-road conditions

For those who regularly drive off the beaten track, the 4Matic versions are equipped with specific support functions. The electric motor on the front axle immediately engages as soon as extra grip is needed. In addition, the CAP features the Terrain Mode driving program, which adapts steering, braking and drive to surfaces such as gravel or sand.

An optional feature is the “transparent hood,” which gives a virtual view under the car and facilitates maneuvering in rough terrain. The maximum braked trailer mass is two tons, making the electric CAP suitable for larger caravans. The nose weight of 100 kilograms makes it possible to carry heavy bike carriers with e-bikes.

Comprehensive safety and assistance systems under MB.Drive

The new CAP introduces the newly named MB.Drive for all Mercedes-Benz assistance systems. Standard equipment in Europe includes the distance assistant Distronic. For environmental detection, the car uses eight cameras, five radar sensors and 12 ultrasonic sensors, controlled by a water-cooled computer with sufficient computing power for future software functions. Thanks to the link to the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud, many functions can be enhanced or expanded via over-the-air updates. Digital extras can be added immediately upon purchase or later via the Mercedes-Benz Store.

Suspension with adaptive damping

The suspension comes standard with adaptive adjustable damping when 20-inch wheels are chosen. Dynamic Select allows the driver to choose between a comfortable or a sportier tuning. The goal is to provide a balance between relaxed long-distance driving and a more direct driving feel when desired.

Exterior design with new grille

The exterior of the new GLB is characterized by powerful proportions, an upright front end, a steep windshield and short overhangs. The claddings and optical underride guards emphasize the model’s off-road character. The muscular shoulder line and wide track reinforce the SUV appearance.

A striking element is the grille, in which 94 individually animated LED stars in chrome look are integrated. Depending on country-specific regulations, the star at the center of the grille can be fully or partially illuminated. For hybrid models, the grille remains recognizable by the classic Mercedes-Benz pattern with a circumferential LED light band.

The panoramic roof, which comes standard, enhances the interior’s spacious feeling. An optional Sky Control variant can switch between transparent and milky display within milliseconds for greater privacy. At night, a special effect is created by 158 illuminated stars.

Superscreen in the CAP

MBUX Superscreen

The interior of the GLB is all about modern, high-tech design. The optional MBUX superscreen extends across the width of the dashboard and combines a 10.25-inch driver display with two 14-inch center screens. The display uses real-time graphics via the Unity Game Engine. A redesigned center console provides additional storage space and places the controls at an ergonomic height.

Based on customer feedback, physical controls have been reduced, including a rocker switch for the speed limiter and Distronic, as well as a roller switch for volume control. The MBUX system offers 11 ambience styles that adjust instrument cluster and lighting color schemes to match driver preference.

Mercedes-Benz CAP has MB.OS

The GLB runs entirely on the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), which enables long-term software support thanks to powerful hardware and cloud connectivity. Over-the-air updates keep assistance systems and infotainment functions up to date for years.

MB.OS also heralds the arrival of the fourth-generation MBUX. This is the first infotainment system to combine artificial intelligence from both Microsoft and Google. Multiple AI agents operate within the same system, making navigation, search and interaction with the virtual assistant more accurate and personalized. The MBUX assistant uses ChatGPT4o, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini for in-depth dialogues, route information and location-based queries. The avatar remains visible in the zero layer, where key apps and suggestions are also displayed.

Apps can be arranged in folders and opened or closed with swipe gestures. The zero layer remains the central starting point for intuitive navigation through the system.

Navigation based on Google Maps

The CAP uses a Google Maps-based navigation solution developed in collaboration with Google Cloud. For the first time, this combines the Automotive AI Agent for in-car use with Google Maps. Navigation with Electric Intelligence takes into account factors such as temperature, traffic conditions and charging networks. The system automatically plans suitable charging stops and route options.

MBUX surround navigation integrates the driving assistance display with a 3D environment render of the immediate traffic situation. The driver display shows the user how the CAP interprets its environment and which assistance systems are active.
