New Mazda CX-5 (2025) – Will this be your next caravan tractor?
We list the major innovations for you. From the design and interior to grown dimensions, modern Google infotainment and an updated powertrain.
Revamped exterior: recognizable Mazda CX-5
The design of the Mazda CX-5 has always been central to its success, and the third generation adds to that. The updated Kodo design language gives the SUV a more powerful look, with tighter lines and a higher nose that gives the car a more confident stance. The rear has also been addressed: it has been widened by 15 millimeters and given sleek LED taillights. For the first time, a distinctive Mazda wordmark appears on the tailgate, instead of the logo.

Larger dimensions, more space
The all-new CX-5 is 115 mm longer, 15 mm wider and 30 mm higher than the previous model. This growth spurt provides not only a tougher look, but more importantly, more space. Leg and headroom in the rear increased significantly, as did the width of the rear doors, making entry easier. The luggage compartment grew by 61 liters and now offers up to 2,019 liters of cargo space with the rear seats folded down. The cargo opening is also larger and the floor flatter, making it easier to load large items. The rear seats fold down in 40:20:40 ratios.

More spacious and modern interior in the Mazda CX-5
Inside, Mazda has designed the CX-5 according to Japan’s “Ma” philosophy: tranquility, space and harmony. The result is an interior that feels more spacious and uncluttered with high-quality materials such as faux leather or genuine leather, depending on the trim level. The horizontal layout of the dashboard emphasizes the width of the interior, while ambient lighting with seven adjustable colors provides a fine ambience.
Again, one notices the Mazda wordmark placed on the steering wheel. Not only is that new, but for the first time a Mazda comes with an infotainment system with Google services. You’ll have Google Gemini, Maps and Play, among other features. So you can not only navigate easily, but also enjoy apps you have on your phone, such as Spotify. So the CX-5 makes great strides in technology. The central touchscreen measures 12.9 inches as standard and even 15.6 inches in the Homura trim, replacing many physical buttons for a sleeker look. The 10.25-inch digital instrument panel clearly displays all driving information, and a head-up display projects important data onto the windshield.

Powerful powertrain with high towing weight
The third-generation Mazda CX-5 introduces a new 2.5-liter e-Skyactiv G gasoline engine with Mazda M Hybrid technology. This powerplant produces 141 hp (104 kW) and 238 Nm of torque. Thanks to the larger displacement, the CX-5 accelerates more smoothly, especially at low and mid-range speeds, and is capable of towing 2,000 kg of braked vehicle – ideal for caravans or trailers. The M Hybrid system stores energy during braking and uses it to support the combustion engine, which not only ensures lower consumption (target WLTP consumption from 7.3 l/100 km), but also a smoother ride when accelerating.
Conclusion and price Mazda CX-5 (2025)
With its sleeker design, roomier and more luxurious interior, modern infotainment and efficient powertrain, the third-generation Mazda CX-5 is likely to once again set the tone in the popular SUV segment. It builds on the strong reputation of its predecessors and is poised to remain a favorite in the Netherlands for years to come.
The starting price of the Mazda CX-5 has been set at 45,990 euros. This caravan tractor will arrive in showrooms in December 2025.
