New design language Mercedes-Benz: electric GLC has firsts
New interpretation of a classic style element
The new Mercedes-Benz GLC is the first production car from Mercedes-Benz to be shaped according to the latest interpretation of the brand design. A striking feature is the new horizontally designed grille with clean lines, a wide chrome surround, smoked-glass grille structure and integrated contour lighting. In an optional version, the grille features 942 illuminated dots that can be animated, making the design dynamic. The grille also includes an illuminated Mercedes star.
According to Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, the new front symbolizes a redefinition of the brand face: “Our new grille not only defines the appearance of the GLC, but also the visual identity of the brand in the future.”

Design with roots in the past
The grille design has been a recognizable style element since the early days of Mercedes-Benz. Over the decades, the shape has evolved from an upright grille with simple lines to more horizontally oriented designs. Models such as the 600 Pullman (W100), the W114 (“Strich 8”) and the S-Class generations W108 and W111 are examples of cars where the grille was a defining visual feature.
In the new GLC, this historic element is given a contemporary interpretation, matching the move to all-electric drive. Instead of a traditional air intake, the grille panel is now shaped as a design element that brings together technology, lighting and brand identity.
First model with MB.OS platform
The new GLC is the first vehicle based on Mercedes-Benz’s new MB.OS platform. This operating system integrates software and vehicle architecture and is at the heart of a new generation of vehicles. The powertrain of the GLC is all-electric, but further technical details have not yet been disclosed.
Inside, the car will feature a new type of MBUX hyperscreen designed to provide a seamless digital experience. The user interface is designed to feel intuitive, with a focus on comfort and ease of use. According to the brand, the interior has been developed as a space where driver and passengers feel right at home.
Popular model in a new form
The GLC has been considered one of Mercedes-Benz’s best-selling models for years. With the introduction of the electric version, the brand hopes to maintain this position in a changing market in which electrification is becoming increasingly important. The new generation Mercedes-Benz GLC builds on the existing success, but with a different drivetrain and an updated visual identity.
Premiere on Sept. 7
The official unveiling of the electric GLC will take place on Sept. 7, 2025, at the IAA Mobility in Munich. At that time, Mercedes-Benz is also expected to provide more information on the model’s technical specifications, performance and market launch.
