More exclusive than exclusive: Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed makes test meters
World debut in Monaco
The PureSpeed made its debut earlier this year in Monaco and expectations have been high ever since.
The prototypes – still heavily camouflaged – are now being put through their paces on the roads of northern and southern Italy.
By now they have already covered more than 3,000 kilometers, from winding mountain roads to the high-speed circuit in Nardo, Italy.
Roofless and windowless
What makes the PureSpeed so special?
Well, look closely at the pictures.
Do you see a roof or windshield?
Exactly, those are completely missing!
This two-seater is completely open and that’s what makes it so unique.
Even the familiar A-pillar has been replaced by a HALO system, just like in Formula 1, for occupant protection.
A helmet is not a luxury, by the way, to head off flying pebbles and insects.
You don’t have to buy a helmet yourself, because Mercedes-AMG gives you specially designed helmets that go with the car.
They are aerodynamically optimized and match the car in design.
Performance to savour
We do not yet have official figures, but insiders whisper that the PureSpeed has the same engine as the SL 63: a fat 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with 424 kW (577 hp).
So count on acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in the blink of an eye and a top speed that will blow you away.
And again: that’s without a windshield, side windows and a roof.
250 copies
Only 250 of these gems will be made, so it really is something for the happy few.
Not only does the PureSpeed promise a unique driving experience, but it is also a new chapter in Mercedes-AMG history.
Similar to Ferrari’s Icona program, the Mythos series promises to be a collection of exceptionally unique and desirable cars.
