Mercedes-Benz will open its first own superchargers this fall: Mercedes-Benz Charging Hubs

August 29, 2023

Mercedes-Benz Charging Hubs

The first Mercedes-Benz Charging Hubs will begin operation in Atlanta (USA), Chengdu (China) and Mannheim (Germany) from October 2023. By the end of 2024, Mercedes-Benz plans to further expand the global fast-charging network to more than 2,000 charging stations. The long-term goal is to create more than 2,000 Charging Hubs with more than 10,000 charging stations by the end of the decade. When the first one will arrive in the Netherlands is not yet known.

This is what Mercedes-Benz Charging Hubs offer

Mercedes-Benz charging stations – depending on the region – offer charging capacities of up to 400 kW via the standard charging systems CCS1, CCS2, NACS and GB/T. Intelligent charging management allows each vehicle to be charged at maximum capacity. This minimizes loading time for customers.

Located at major traffic intersections

When choosing the location of the Charging Hubs, Mercedes-Benz is committed to a pleasant and safe customer experience. The charging stations are located at major traffic intersections or at Mercedes-Benz-owned facilities and offer other amenities in the immediate vicinity, such as accommodations, restaurants and washrooms. To ensure security, the plan is to equip the charging parks with surveillance cameras. At selected locations, intelligent light poles not only provide good lighting, they also feature functional LED elements that provide information on charging station availability and vehicle charging status. At selected charging stations, canopies provide protection from inclement weather.

Accessible to drivers of all brands

The charging network is accessible to drivers of all brands. Mercedes-Benz customers enjoy special benefits, for example the possibility of reserving a charging station through the Mercedes-Benz me Charge service to reduce waiting times. The Mercedes-Benz charging network is seamlessly integrated here, complementing the more than 1.3 million charging stations that users worldwide already have access to. Using Mercedes-Benz’s intelligent navigation system, charging stations are integrated directly into route planning to determine the best route to the charging station. To make charging even more convenient, the charging stations will offer additional convenience features, such as Plug & Charge service. This allows Mercedes-Benz customers to automatically handle the charging and payment process once the charging cable is connected.

“We are convinced that electromobility is the key to a sustainable, emission-free future. Our goal is to create an infrastructure that allows electric vehicles to be charged reliably and easily. In this way, we actively support the mobility transformation. With the Mercedes-Benz fast-charging network, we are expanding global charging capabilities and creating new standards for charging electric vehicles. We want to encourage our customers to switch to emission-free driving and thus make a positive contribution to protecting our environment.”

100% green power

Mercedes-Benz, as part of its sustainable business strategy “Ambition 2039,” also enables customers to charge in an environmentally friendly manner with 100% green electricity within this charging network. This is preferably done through green power supply contracts (where possible) or by using renewable energy certificates from a certified supplier. Selected charging stations will also be equipped with photovoltaic systems.

Expansion of global charging capabilities

Mercedes-Benz Group continues to promote electromobility and is committed to the rapid and future-oriented expansion of its global fast charging infrastructure. With the development of the Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging Network, Mercedes-Benz is continually expanding its existing offering. This includes IONITY, the European fast-charging network, and the recently announced joint venture to expand North American fast-charging work. The Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging Network is the next important step in the company’s electrification strategy. All activities related to the charging ecosystem are hosted by Mercedes-Benz Mobility AG.
