The Mercedes-Benz G-Class Edition Stronger Than the 1980s – the name alone consists of 48 characters – is a tribute to the first G-Class W 460 series, those from the 1980s. In particular, this edition pays homage to the 280 GE. This model laid the foundation for the success story and cult status of the “Geländewagen.

Striking colors

Available as either a G 450 d or G 500, the G-Class Edition Stronger Than the 1980s combines state-of-the-art technology and comfort with the charm of the 1980s. Customers can choose from three nostalgic colors, which were among the original paints and are inseparable from the cult status of the G-Class.

Direction indicators in orange

Matching the historic paint colors, the iconic turn signals have the typical orange color of the time. To complete the vintage look, the front, grille, bumpers, widened wheel arches and exterior mirrors are finished in night black magno. The technical bottom protection plate is also finished in black.

Classic five-spoke alloy wheels

The G-Class Edition Stronger Than the 1980s features classic five-spoke alloy wheels. The Mercedes star on the hood adopts the design of the historic emblem, with the inscription “Mercedes-Benz” and the laurel wreath on a blue background. The rear door is decorated with an original part from the 1980s: the silver brand badge with black lettering ‘Mercedes Benz’ and an Edition-specific spare wheel cover.

Professional Line, if you want something a little more rugged

Selected equipment details from the Professional Line exterior emphasize the off-road look. These include front and rear splash guards, stone chip grilles for the dark headlights and all-terrain tires. The roof rack is optionally available.

Retro interior for Mercedes-Benz G-Class Edition Stronger Than the 1980s

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class Edition Stronger Than the 1980s also pays homage to the early days of the off-road icon. The center strip of the black leather seats is covered in dove gray fabric that was hugely popular at the time. The trim panel of the front passenger side handle bears the inscription “Stronger Than the 1980s. The front entry strips show the topography of Schöckl Mountain near Graz, the test track where the G-Class has been tested since 1979.

The traditional ‘Schöckl Proved’ badge at the bottom of the B-pillar is designed in a classic 1980s style, featuring a historic G-model in the corresponding body color. Each vehicle also has an inscription ‘1 of 460’ on the center console. A multifunction steering wheel in Nappa leather, a sliding glass roof and the Burmester 3D surround sound system complete the interior equipment of the special model. A price has not yet been announced.
