Maserati misses out on 1.5 billion euro investment
Selling Maserati
Sales of Maserati models could be better. In 2023, the brand was still selling 26,600 cars, but by 2024 that dropped to 11,300 units. In 2024, Maserati lost a solid 260 million euros. Everything is now paying off extra badly for Maserati, with Ostermann taking off the table a planned 1.5 billion euro investment in Maserati. According to the top executive, some future projects cannot be realized, but Ostermann does not go into detail about which ones. Earlier, Maserati announced electric successors to the MC20, Quattroporte and Levante.
Planned product introductions reviewed
Ostermann believes Stellantis should review the schedule of Maserati’s planned product introductions. On the other hand, the powerful Italian union FIM is not amused. The union wants clarity on the future of Maserati and is organizing a meeting scheduled for March 11. “Maserati represents one of the most critical situations,” said FIM general secretary Ferdinando Uliano. “Despite its quality and powerful models, the brand suffers from mistakes and carelessness in marketing. We cannot waste any more time.”
Uncertain car market situation
Whether marketing plays a significant role here is not entirely certain. It may also have to do with the overall uncertain situation in the car market, not only in Europe, but also in China and other major markets. Will everything become truly electric? Or will there be another solution? One thing is certain: Maserati must look for solutions to secure its own future.
