Major update Opel Astra Plug-in Hybrid: extra power, extra range
Greater electric driving range for Opel Astra Plug-in Hybrid
The Opel Astra and Astra Sports Tourer with plug-in hybrid powertrains are getting substantial updates. Both models now have a system output of 144 kW (196 hp) and a larger battery of 17.2 kWh. This increases the electric range to 83 kilometers according to the WLTP test standard. That was previously 180 hp and a range of about 60 kilometers.
The powertrain highlighted
The 1.6-liter turbo gasoline engine in the new Opel Astra Plug-in Hybrid delivers 110 kW (150 hp) and the electric motor a maximum of 92 kW (125 hp). The system power has thus increased by 11 kW (15 hp) and the range by 26 kilometers. With 360 Nm of torque, the Astra Plug-in Hybrid accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds (Sports Tourer Plug-in Hybrid in 7.7 seconds). Top speed is 225 km/h for both models. That is on the high side for a plug-in hybrid. Average energy consumption has been reduced compared to the previous model, thanks in part to the larger battery. Consumption comes out at 12.7 to 13.1 kWh and 2.2 to 2.4 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers, depending on specifications.

An updated 7-speed automatic transmission
Opel is also introducing an updated, electrified, 7-speed automatic transmission. It has been specially developed for this plug-in hybrid powertrain. The automatic features a dual-clutch transmission and – compared to the automatic in the Astra Hybrid with 48-volt technology – an additional gear.
Standard equipment
Each version of the Astra Plug-in Hybrid comes standard with a multimedia system with 10-inch color touchscreen, a digital instrument panel, wireless smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the “Keyless Start” system.
And the prices?
Despite these improvements, the starting prices are unchanged. The five-door Astra Plug-in Hybrid comes from 37,999 euros and the Astra Sports Tourer Plug-in Hybrid from 38,999 euros. The new plug-in hybrid powertrain is also available in the Opel Grandland. You get up to 8 years or 160,000 kilometers warranty on every new Opel today, provided that the prescribed maintenance is carried out by an authorized repairer within the official Opel network.
