Leapmotor B05 Ultra to become EV hot hatch?

September 11, 2025

Ultra-label

Okay, will Ultra then become Leapmotor’s performance label? We ask Tianshu Xin, CEO of Leapmotor International, at the IAA in Munich. “Ultra means more performance and and sportier equipment. For now, the B05 is the only one with the Ultra label. We cannot release more at the moment,” he told AutoRAI.nl in an interview.

The Leapmotor B05 will have to wait a while anyway, as the regular variant will not be launched in Europe until the end of the second quarter of 2026. The model will rival the Opel Astra (Electric) and Volkswagen Golf but Leapmotor also has the ID.3 in its sights. The price should be significantly lower compared to these European players. At a later stage, the Ultra version will come again.

Features Leapmotor B05 Ultra

At least to look at, the Ultra version of the Leapmotor B05 looks promising. We see hefty alloy wheels, sportier bumpers, sideskirts and an imposing rear spoiler. Also notable: a LiDar on the roof. No photos of the interior have been released yet, and technical data are also conspicuous by their absence. In any case, Xin makes one promise: the Ultra version gets significantly more power than the 160 kW (218 hp) and 240 Nm of the regular B05. So are we talking about a system output of 585 hp, like the twin-engine C10 has? That chance seems pretty slim, since the B05 shares the platform and thus technology with the B10, an electric SUV. In any case, Leapmotor has the technology ready to go.
