In detail: BYD Sealion 7

BYD Sealion 7 is on e-Platform 3.0

The BYD Sealion 7 is based on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, designed exclusively for Blade Battery electric vehicles. The BYD Blade Battery uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) as the cathode material. The battery is 100% free of cobalt. In addition to the Blade Battery, the Sealion 7 also has a so-called Cell-to-Body (CTB) structure.

Instead of a traditional arrangement, CTB integrates the Blade Battery into the entire vehicle structure, with the top of the battery also acting as the floor of the passenger compartment. CTB features a strong honeycomb-like aluminum structure. The length of the Sealion 7 comes out to 4,830 mm and the long wheelbase is 2,930 mm, which is 10 mm longer than the BYD Seal.

Powerful electric motor

The Sealion 7 uses a new electric motor with dual V-shaped magnets and an impressive 92% slot-filling rate with flat wire winding. As a result, the rear motor of the Sealion 7 can reach up to 23,000 rpm. This electric motor produces 230 kW (313 hp) and 380 Nm of torque. In the Design AWD and Excellence AWD versions, this motor is combined with an additional 160 kW electric motor on the front axle, providing all-wheel drive and a combined output of 390 kW and 690 Nm of torque. The top speed of these versions is 215 km/h. The 0-100 km/h sprint takes 4.5 seconds.

Two battery packs

The new Sealion 7 is offered with a choice of two battery packs. The Comfort rear-wheel-drive version and the all-wheel-drive Design AWD version feature an 82.5 kWh Blade Battery. This provides, in the single-engine Comfort, a WLTP range of 482 km, while the twin-engine Design AWD achieves a WLTP range of 456 km. The top trim Excellence AWD has the largest battery with a capacity of 91.3 kWh, accounting for a WLTP range of 502 km.

11 kW three-phase AC charging

The car comes standard with 11 kW three-phase AC charging. DC charging does the Comfort and Design versions up to 150 kW, which allows the battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in 32 minutes. The Excellence AWD with larger battery charges up to a maximum of 230 kW at the DC charger, allowing the battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in 24 minutes. A heat pump is standard on every BYD Sealion 7.   

Frequency sensitive shock absorbers

The Sealion 7 is further equipped with frequency-sensitive shock absorbers. This variable system controls the flow of oil in the damper cylinders, which should provide a relatively firm adjustment on smooth surfaces for improved stability and handling, but a softer, more forgiving configuration when the Sealion 7 encounters potholes or bumps. It also has Intelligent Torque Adaptation Control (iTAC) system, available on AWD versions. This system intelligently distributes torque by using torque shifting, reducing torque and even applying negative torque to increase stability.

Luggage space BYD Sealion 7

The boot of the Sealion 7 is 520 liters with the rear seats folded. The volume can be increased to 1,789 liters by folding down the rear seats. In addition, there is a 58-liter frunk. The charging cable can be stored in there. The interior has more than 20 storage compartments for smaller items, including a 50W wireless (and cooled) smartphone charger incorporated into the center console.

Standard equipment is quite extensive. Steering wheel heating is standard, and the front seats come standard with seat ventilation and heating. Rear-seat passengers have seat heating as standard. A large panoramic glass roof is also included in the price, as is a 15.6-inch display. This screen has a horizontal or vertical mode. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are now fully integrated into BYD’s proprietary system and interface. As a driver, you look out at a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The Excellence AWD also has a head-up display.

A 12-speaker audio system from Danish manufacturer Dynaudio is also standard. Furthermore, the model has front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control and traffic sign recognition. We go a little further: intelligent speed limit control, front and rear collision warnings, front and rear cross traffic warnings and automatic braking in cross traffic and lane departure warning are also standard. The same is true for intelligent high beam control, blind spot detection, automatic emergency braking, fatigue detection, door opening warning signals for rear traffic, lane centering and a driver distraction warning system are standard. The car has nine airbags.

Versions BYD Sealion 7

The Sealion 7 Comfort is available in the standard paint finish Atlantis Grey starting at 50,690 euros. The most accessible Sealion 7 Comfort is equipped with:

• BYD’s swiveling 15.6-inch touchscreen
• a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel
• cooled 50W wireless smartphone charger

Design AWD and Excellence AWD

In addition to the difference in engine and drivetrain, the Design AWD features the Intelligent Torque Adaption Control system. The Comfort is equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, while the Design AWD features 20-inch alloy wheels. The Design AWD is allowed to tow a trailer of 1,500 kilograms (braked). The Sealion 7 Design AWD is available starting at 53,690 euros.

The Excellence AWD is distinguished by the larger battery, DC charging up to a maximum of 230 kW, Nappa leather upholstery and a head-up display (with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration). The Sealion 7 Excellence AWD is available from 58,190 euros.

Colors BYD Sealion 7

Four exterior colors are available. Atlantis Grey (standard), Indigo Grey, Polar White and Space Black. All paints except Atlantis Grey carry an additional cost of 1,100 euros. Interior choice is free of charge and available in two colors, Black and Tahitian Blue. All prices quoted are 2025 roadworthy prices, including VAT and BPM.
