Hyundai previews all-new Ioniq 9
Great!
Why the name Ioniq 9? Simple: this model represents Hyundai’s first truly large electric SUV. With this name, Hyundai shows that they are taking a new step in their Ioniq series, which began with the Ioniq 5 and the Ioniq 6. According to the brand, the Ioniq 9 not only offers more space, but also takes comfort and luxury to the next level.
E-GMP
The Ioniq 9 is a brother to the Kia EV9, which you already see on Dutch roads. Like the EV9 and the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, the Ioniq 9 sits on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform. This platform is designed for electric cars and provides a sea of space. The result? An interior where you can comfortably carry up to seven people, along with quite a bit of luggage.
The details
The first images show that Hyundai has taken their design philosophy another step further. The sharp lines on the side subtly allude to the traditional Korean Hanbok clothing style. Also not missing are the so-called Parametric Pixels, the futuristic 8-bit light signature we now know from other Ioniq models.
Looking ahead to the unveiling
Starting Oct. 30, Hyundai will share more and more details about the Ioniq 9, as a warm-up for its big reveal in November. This launch concludes a special year for Hyundai, in which the brand produced its 100 millionth car. That milestone was achieved with an EV. By 2030, the South Koreans aim to sell as many as 2 million electric vehicles annually.
