Hyundai Ioniq 9 (2025) already in the Netherlands for a while! – WALKAROUND

January 8, 2025

Hyundai’s EV9

You may think of the Ioniq 9 as Hyundai’s Kia EV9, but with a completely different design from that Kia. What car should you think of when you see this Hyundai? We especially got Cadillac Escalade vibes at the rear. One thing is certain: this Ioniq 9 from Hyundai stands out. The rear is inspired by the stern of a boat (boat tail).

No roof antenna

A special feature of the Ioniq 9 is that it is the first Hyundai model without a visible roof antenna. The antenna’s functions are divided between the windshield (for GPS and satellite radio), the dashboard (for Connected Car Services) and the rear window (for FM/AM and digital media). In some markets, digital exterior mirrors are replacing traditional mirrors. These show side and rear views through a 7-inch OLED screen.

Engineering Hyundai Ioniq 9

First, some technology. It is based on the already familiar Electric-Global Modular Platform, or E-GMP for short. The Hyundai Ioniq 9 uses a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 110.3 kWh. A hefty battery, in other words. The driving range of the car comes out to 620 km according to WLTP for the Long-Range rear-wheel drive variant with 19-inch rims.

The Long-Range rear-wheel-drive Ioniq 9 has a 160 kW (218 hp) electric motor on the rear axle. The all-wheel-drive version adds another 70 kW (95 hp) electric motor on the front axle. The all-wheel-drive Hyundai Ioniq 9 Performance has a 160 kW (218 hp) electric motor on both the front and rear axles. The Performance version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds, while the all-wheel-drive Long-Range version takes 6.7 seconds and the rear-wheel-drive Long-Range version takes 9.4 seconds.

Engine variants, all with 110.3 kWh battery

The Ioniq 9 also has hefty towing capabilities. In trailer mode, the car automatically detects the weight of the trailer and adjusts its estimated range accordingly. This feature maintains a fixed 50:50 engine torque distribution between the front and rear wheels for optimal performance. In Europe, the Ioniq 9 is allowed to tow a trailer up to 2,500 kilograms.

Using a 350 kW charger, the Hyundai Ioniq 9 charges from 10 to 80 percent in just 24 minutes. The Ioniq 9’s E-GMP architecture is suitable for charging with both 400- and 800-volt systems, and its vehicle-to-load (V2L) feature allows the driver to use the stored energy in the high-voltage battery to power a variety of devices even when the vehicle is off.

Dimensions Hyundai Ioniq 9

The Hyundai Ioniq 9 has a length of 5,060 mm, a width of 1,980 mm and a height of 1,790 mm. The wheelbase comes out to 3,130 mm, the longest wheelbase of any Hyundai model. A hefty car, then, this Korean.

Interior

The Relaxation Seats in the first and second rows can be fully reclined and have a leg rest for extra comfort. This allows up to four people to relax optimally while charging.

Dynamic Body Care function

The Relaxation Seats feature a special Dynamic Body Care function, a first for Hyundai. This system provides massage with pressure and vibration to improve blood circulation and reduce fatigue during long drives.

Swivel chairs

Also convenient are the swivel seats in the second row. This allows the passengers in the second row of seats – when the car is stationary – to turn to the passengers in the third row and look at each other. This makes it easier to talk to each other and thus makes even better use of the space in the car.

Universal Island 2.0 console

The Ioniq 9 is equipped with a Universal Island 2.0 console, which can slide forward and backward for additional (storage) space and convenience. In addition, a convenient walk-through can be created between the front seats. The console can be slid over a distance of 190 mm and has storage space of 5.6 liters in the upper drawer and 12.6 liters in the lower drawer.

Luggage space Hyundai Ioniq 9

When the third row seatback is folded down, the trunk holds 1,323 liters of luggage. With all backrests up, there is room for 620 liters of luggage. Furthermore, the car has a small front luggage compartment, with a capacity of 88 liters in the rear-wheel-drive Ioniq 9 and 52 liters in the all-wheel-drive Ioniq 9.

Durable materials

The Ioniq 9 makes extensive use of sustainable materials, including eco-friendly processed leather, yarn from recycled PET bottles, wool, biodegradable plastics and paint made from recycled tires.

Features on Demand

Hyundai’s new Features on Demand (FoD) service allows Ioniq 9 customers to further personalize their vehicle with digital upgrades they can purchase online. The FoD service includes features such as dynamic lighting when opening the door, dynamic guidance light when closing the door, and options for streaming content including Amazon Music and Soundcloud. The Display Theme feature allows the display to be personalized with various themes.

100W USB-C ports

The Ioniq 9 has 100W USB-C ports for occupants in the front seats and the second and third rows of seats. Unlike traditional USB ports that rely on a 12V battery, the Ioniq 9 draws power directly from the high-voltage battery ensuring uninterrupted use. This innovative concept further extends the capabilities of Hyundai’s Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature. The V2L outlet in the luggage compartment allows, with the EV’s battery, to power and charge electrical devices and equipment through a standard outlet.

Camping in the car

The Ioniq 9’s climate system is equipped with a special feature optimized for leisure activities, such as car camping. This system provides air conditioning for rear-seat passengers and reduces unnecessary power consumption by independently controlling the front and rear climate zones.

UV-C air purification system

The new three-row electric SUV is also equipped with a UV-C air cleaning system that has a sterilization function for disinfecting bacteria on cell phones and wallets, for example. This feature was developed to meet the needs of customers who value health and hygiene in their cars.

Optional is a premium 14-speaker BOSE audio system that supports 5.1-channel surround sound and offers wireless updates and advanced BOSE features. The system also includes e-Active Sound Design (e-ASD), which emits the virtual driving sound of an EV through the car’s audio system. Furthermore, the car features an Active Noise Control-Road (ANC-R) system that further filters road noise.
