Hyundai Ioniq 6 the safest large family car according to Euro NCAP

January 30, 2023

Euro NCAP

The award follows the successful crash tests to which the Ioniq 6 was subjected by Euro NCAP last year. In it, the electric sedan earned 5 stars, which is the maximum score a car can achieve in this independent crash test. This allows the Korean to call itself Best in Class in the Large Family Car category.

Assessment in four categories

2022 was the busiest year ever for Euro NCAP. In all, as many as 66 new passenger cars were tested. Cars undergoing Euro NCAP’s safety test are rated in four categories: adult occupant protection, in-car child protection, pedestrian protection and Safety Assist. Cars only qualify for the Best in Class designation based on their rating with standard safety equipment. Additional assessments based on optional equipment are excluded.

Maximum score

Hyundai’s new electric car excels in the categories of adult occupant protection, in-car child protection and Safety Assist. Adult car safety receives a score of 97 percent from the European Safety Institute, good for first place in this category. And with a rating of 87 percent – the maximum score on this component – safety for children ages 6 to 10 also proved unsurpassed. On the Safety Assist component, the Hyundai scores 90 percent.
