Hands-free: self-driving Ford now approved in the Netherlands

August 1, 2024

BlueCruise

The approval means that Ford drivers with BlueCruise can now drive without hands on the wheel on more than 135,000 kilometers of highways, known as Blue Zones, across 18 European countries.
BlueCruise is a Level 2 “hands-off, eyes-on” assistance system, meaning it supports the driver in steering, accelerating, braking and lane keeping.
The system constantly monitors road markings, speed signs and traffic conditions.
It can self-regulate the safe distance from ahead, from high speeds to coming to a complete stop in a traffic jam.
Unlike other cars with this type of driver assistance system, a Ford with BlueCruise does not require you to keep your hands on the wheel on the highway.

Multiple countries

With the approval of the European Commission, users can now drive across multiple countries without hands on the wheel.
For example, it is possible to drive from Sweden to Italy, a distance of nearly 3,000 kilometers, completely hands-free.

Mustang Mach E

BlueCruise is available in Mustang Mach-E models sold in the 18 approved countries.
In addition, owners of older models may receive an over-the-air software update later this year to activate BlueCruise.
These countries include Germany, Great Britain, Spain, France, Italy and the Netherlands.

Experiences and subscriptions

Ford is offering drivers the chance to try BlueCruise for free during a 90-day trial period.
After this period, users can opt for a monthly subscription that can be activated or canceled via the FordPass App, depending on driving plans.
Worldwide, more than 420,000 Fords and Lincolns are already driving with BlueCruise and more than 342 million miles have been driven hands-free.
