Golf GTI AK47-Edition: for those who need a quick getaway
Ballistic glass
South African firm SVI Engineering has transformed a Golf 8 GTI into a bulletproof fortress on wheels.
The hot hatch is equipped with B4+ armor and windows made of ballistic glass.
These windows can withstand four shots from an AK47 within a 30-centimeter square.
The driver’s window can still open halfway, which comes in handy when you need some fresh air after a thrilling escape.
Armored steel
The company abandoned composites and opted for high-quality armored steel.
The Golf GTI is equipped with 3.5mm of armored steel, which is incorporated into the doors, pillars and roof.
Even the wheel arches are armored to protect vital powertrain components.
The protection does not stop at the windows and body.
This Golf is also well armored in the back thanks to a sturdy bulkhead wall, which means the tailgate does not need additional armor.
There is also a rearview camera that gives a continuous view of the baddies chasing you.
Of course, all this protection does add some weight – about 340 pounds to be exact.
So the engineers at SVI adjusted the suspension so that this Golf still retains its sporty handling.
