Going to a driving open-air museum on Father’s Day? National Oldtimer Day celebrates anniversary

April 2, 2026

Expect some 400 vintage cars to provide the backdrop for a day of history on wheels. From stately pre-war models to recognizable classics from the sixties and seventies. Everything that is at least 40 years old is welcome – providing a nice mix of different generations of cars.

But actually that doesn’t just apply to the vehicles. The National Oldtimer Day is an event for everyone. Young and old mix here, as do the cars. Where some people reminisce about the past, the event forms a reminder for others.

That fits perfectly with the motto “Heritage inspires future. It’s not just about looking back at the past, it’s also about passing on stories, technology and above all the passion for preserving driving heritage. Cars that were once an everyday sight on the streets are once again given the attention they deserve here – driving, starting and sometimes a little bubbling.

The anniversary edition also coincides with the 40th anniversary of Flevoland Province. That gives the whole thing an extra festive edge. With tens of thousands of visitors in prospect, it promises to be another busy and enjoyable day.

So do you feel like walking around among hundreds of classic cars for free on Father’s Day? Then you know what to do. Put the National Oldtimer Day in Lelystad in your calendar – June 21, 2026 – and especially take someone along, like your father. Chances are he’ll enjoy it as much as you do.
