Ferrari works on more powerful V12 version of the Purosangue
No rest at Ferrari
The Purosangue is now about three and a half years old – it debuted in September 2022 – and Ferrari thinks it’s time for the next step. Whereas competitors like Lamborghini, Bentley and Porsche already offer their SUVs in multiple variants, until now Ferrari had only one flavor of Purosangue on offer. That’s about to change. According to Bloomberg, Ferrari is working on a sportier, more performance-oriented version of the Purosangue. The goal: to make the handling even sharper than it already is. That’s even though the current Purosangue is already among the fastest and best-handling SUVs in the world.
V12 stays, chassis gets tightened up
The new variant retains the current 6.5-liter atmospheric V12. This already produces an insane 533 kW (725 hp) and 716 Nm of torque in the standard Purosangue. Whether Ferrari will squeeze even more power from the engine is not yet clear. What is certain, however, is that the suspension will be taken in hand. Think sharper damping, tighter suspension and possibly adjusted anti-roll stabilization. The exact package of changes has not yet been confirmed, but the direction is clear: more circuit, less compromise.
Will there also be a V8?
Interestingly, before its unveiling, the Purosangue was widely expected to come with a 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8, similar to what Lamborghini spoons into the Urus. Ferrari, however, deliberately chose the V12 as its only engine option. This is unusual because the V12 makes the Purosangue more expensive and more exclusive than the competition.
Should Ferrari wish to broaden the Purosangue’s customer base, a slightly more affordable V8 version would be a logical step. For now, however, there are no concrete indications of that. The focus right now is entirely on making the V12 even more special.
Competitors
The Purosangue competes in the Netherlands with the Lamborghini Urus, the Bentley Bentayga and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT – all models that also drive around here in very limited numbers.
