Feast your eyes: Toyota GR Yaris M Concept has mid-engine!

The Toyota GR Yaris M Concept features a mid-mounted 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine developed for participation in the Super Taikyu Series. Technical specifications on this powertrain are not yet known, but we wouldn’t be surprised if this powerplant will produce around 550 to perhaps 600 horsepower. They can reliably squeeze a lot of power out of a compact four-cylinder these days.

It may be broken

According to Toyota, the Toyota GR Yaris M Concept embodies the “driver-first” principle, where cars are pushed to the limit under extreme racing conditions and improved based on feedback from both professional and amateur drivers. Production plans? Toyota is not reporting anything about that yet, but the brand is demonstrating this technology for a reason.

Production version?

We can only encourage the brand to also market a street-legal version of a mid-engine GR Yaris. There is a market for that anyway. The concept of a hot hatchback with mid-engine has not been used for many years. The Renault Clio V6 Phase II was pretty much the last one. It would be nice if Toyota changes that.
