Friday’s qualifying sets the grid for Saturday’s sprint race, which in turn sets the grid for Sunday’s race. The sprint race starts on Saturday at 16:30 . A sprint race also provides extra points for the championship. Only the top 8 receive points – P1 gets 8 points, P2 gets 7 points, P3 6 and so on. That is different from last year, when only the top 3 received those points.
2021 Emilia Romagna qualification
Last year it was Lewis Hamilton who took the win, the 99th in his career. P2 was for Sergio Pérez and Max did not get past the third fastest time. Despite a lousy season, Leclerc drove a strong qualifying session on the circuit, which Enzo Ferrari named after his late son. Also noteworthy was that both Russell, who was still driving for Williams at the time, and Latifi both made it to Q2.
