Elon Musk is awfully proud of the Netherlands, but why?
Car sales figures March 2023
In March 2023, 37,452 new passenger cars were registered in the Netherlands. Compared to March 2022 – with 24,781 cars sold – that is a remarkable increase of no less than 51.1 percent, according to official figures from BOVAG, RAI Association and RDC.
Not really unexpected
“Not entirely unexpected is this increase because dealers’ order books have been well filled for some time. However, delivery to their customers was often delayed in recent years due to logistical problems and a shortage of parts. More and more manufacturers have now solved these problems,” said RAI Association.
Forecast 2023
Because it is uncertain whether this sharp monthly increase will continue, BOVAG and RAI Association are, for now, sticking to their forecast of about 9 percent more cars being registered throughout 2023 compared with 2022. That would amount to 340,000 cars. A total of 98,059 (+25.2 percent) new cars have already been registered in the first quarter of 2023.
The most popular brands and models
Still, only one car can be the most popular. In both the top 5 most registered brands in March 2023 and the top 5 most registered models in March 2023, Tesla ranks first. The Tesla Model Y was unstoppable last March. Tesla even leaves behind brands like Volkswagen and Kia. Volvo and Peugeot also did good business in March.
