Electric Ford Puma Gen-E: a first encounter

December 3, 2024

Design Ford Puma Gen-E

The Puma underwent a facelift earlier in 2024 – you check our impression here. Compared to the normal model, there are two notable changes on the outside. The front has the new light signature in a sort of claw shape. The main change is the disappearance of the grille, which makes way for a closed front that benefits the car’s aerodynamics. At the rear, Puma is written out in white, denoting the Gen-E. For fuel engines, this is black.

Powertrain

The Gen-E becomes available with a 43 kWh battery pack, good for a range of 376 km (WLTP) with the regular Gen-E. Ford also offers the Puma Gen-E Premium, with additional options. This variant has a slightly lower range of 364 km, but the same powertrain. You have an electric motor on the front wheels of 124 kW (168 hp) and 290 Nm of torque. The Puma weighs 1,563 kg, which is not too heavy. Acceleration to 100 km/h is squeaked in 8.0 seconds and top speed is reached at 160 km/h.

According to factory specifications, the Gen-E has an efficient consumption of 13.1 kWh/100 km (and 13.7 kWh/100 km for the Premium). Fast charging is possible up to and including 100 kW. Under favorable conditions, you can recharge from 10% to 80% in about 23 minutes. At a later date we will get to know this model in detail and also test its consumption in practice. What will not go unmentioned is the handling of this compact model. The Puma and predecessor Fiesta, are known for their dynamic driving characteristics. Whether the Gen-E with its electric battery pack steers just as nicely, we hope to be able to tell you soon.

Inside

Inside, the Puma has already been given a nice shake-up with the facelift. You sit in sports seats that are adjustable in four ways. The cockpit is characterized by two displays, as instrument cluster and infotainment, the sound bar on the dashboard and now a tidy center tunnel. Here there is room for charging phones and cup holders.

The cockpit comes standard with ambient lighting, sport seats, heated mirrors and automatic wipers. If you opt for the Premium trim, you get 18-inch alloys (17 inches otherwise), a Bang & Olufsen sound system, keyless entry and an electric trunk lid where a swing under the bumper is enough to open it. In addition, matrix LED headlights are at your disposal as well as funny Puma-style entry lights.

The extra space in the trunk is unchanged. The Gigabox is an additional space of 145 liters under the luggage floor, with a drain. This brings the luggage space to 574 liters, which happens to be just two liters more than in the Capri! With the rear seats down, you have 1,283 liters of space in the Puma Gen-E.
