Dutch government in Top 40 with song ‘BPM, Baby’

April 1, 2025

High BPM fine

Now the Dutch often buy on the used car market and abroad, because cars are too expensive in their own country due to the hefty BPM fine. Even in the A-segment, BPM fines run as high as 4,000 euros. The song “BPM, baby” should convince people – especially private individuals – to buy new cars in the Netherlands, thus boosting the greening of the Dutch car fleet. Cars in the Netherlands are on average slightly older than in other Western European countries. The government is therefore taking measures, including this song “BPM, Baby.

The song immediately caught the attention of Dutch radio listeners, resulting in a listing in the Dutch Top 40. The government hopes to be in this chart for weeks to come with the song “BPM, Baby,” because the more people who hear it, the more likely the message will reach all Dutch people.

Lyrics BPM, Baby!

BPM, baby!
BPM – are you ready for the beat?
Good, here comes the heat.
Car sales are down,
And here in The Hague we’re fed up with it.

So we cry out loud: buy it local,
Because that’s really ideal for us.
BPM, BPM, BPM,
Sing it full out, with your voice!

‘T may sound sour, a tick on your penny,
But without BPM, there’s no government document.
Then the budget misses out on a big piece of the pie,
And we think that’s very unhealthy – yes, really.

So one more time for those who forget:
BPM, BPM, BPM – do it discreetly.
Just buy that car in our own country,
Then we’ll keep things under control together.

Nice, isn’t it, such a CO2 fine?
Well, best regards!
