Citroën steps into ABB FIA Formula E World Championship!
Short but powerful
“Participation in this exciting championship is perfectly in line with Citroën’s values and vision of tomorrow’s mobility,” Citroën reported in the official announcement, which, by the way, is short but sweet. The team – christened Citroën Racing Formula E Team – promises to publish more information on Oct. 20.
Citroën in rallying
Citroën achieved its greatest successes in the World Rally Championship (WRC). The team dominated large parts of the 2000s and 2010s with the Citroën Xsara WRC, C4 WRC and later the DS3 WRC. Led by French driver Sébastien Loeb, Citroën won no fewer than nine consecutive world titles (2004-2012) in the drivers’ championship and several constructors’ titles. This made Citroën one of the most successful teams in WRC history.
Touring cars
In addition to rallies, Citroën also achieved success in the WTCC (World Touring Car Championship). With the Citroën C-Elysée WTCC, the team dominated between 2014 and 2016. Drivers such as José María López grabbed multiple world titles, while Citroën was virtually unbeatable as a constructor during that period.
Other disciplines
Although rally and touring cars were the core, Citroën also experimented in other branches of motorsport. For example, they participated in rally-raids such as Paris-Dakar, but without the same level of success as in WRC or WTCC.
