Chris and Julie have a muddy Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE!

February 8, 2023

Nissan Ariya customized by Arctic Trucks

Arctic Trucks specializes in converting SUVs to expedition vehicles. In collaboration with Nissan, this awesome Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE was developed. The suspension was raised to accommodate extremely large tires. The car also has an air pump system for letting air out of the 39-inch tires or just re-inflating them. The wheel arches have also been widened.

Driveline still completely standard

The shape of the Nissan Ariya has been retained as much as possible. Nor has the battery-electric powertrain been modified. However, the car does have all-wheel drive, christened e-4ORCE by Nissan.

39-inch BF Goodrich tires

Chris Ramsey, Pole to Pole EV Expedition Leader, says, “One of the things that underlies all the adventures we do is that we take a standard production EV and strive to make minimal changes to clearly demonstrate its real, everyday capabilities no matter where you drive it. We modified the suspension and widened the wheel arches to take advantage of the stable platform and the support of the 39-inch BF Goodrich tires I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel.”

Eat my dust! Eat my snow! Or Eat my rocks!

A self-proclaimed coffee lover, Chris will have access to a specially integrated espresso machine with a hefty supply of sustainable coffee. The route from the North Pole to the South Pole is a whopping 27,000 kilometers long. In the process, the Nissan Ariya encounters ice fields, deep snow, mountain climbs and desert dunes. So depending on location, it’s Eat my dust! Eat my snow! Or Eat my rocks! The ride will start in March 2023.

How does the Nissan Ariya charge?

And then how will Nissan charge the Ariya the car? Simple! Thanks to a portable renewable energy unit, it is possible to charge the Ariya in polar regions. The towable prototype includes a compact, lightweight wind turbine and solar panels that take advantage of strong winds and long hours of daylight to charge the electric car’s battery when Chris and Julie stop to rest.

Never tried before

Julie Ramsey, co-driver of the Pole to Pole expidition, says, “Planning and preparing for Pole to Pole has been such a big part of our lives for the past four years, so I’m really looking forward to getting the expedition started in March. We are doing something that has never been attempted before.”
