Charging in Amsterdam twice as expensive – This is what a full battery of these 10 popular EVs costs now
Green city
Our capital city would like to be a leader in sustainable mobility. Environmental zones are therefore rapidly becoming larger and stricter. Amsterdam by Jan. 1, 2025, for example, already no commercial vehicles with fuel engines within the A10 ring road. Only battery- or hydrogen-electric commercial vehicles will then be welcome in the city. However, current charging prices in the capital do not encourage residents to switch to a green car. Indeed, the price of charging has doubled in a short time.
68 cents
In Amsterdam, Vattenfall and TotalEnergies are responsible for installing, managing and operating charging stations. At a Vattenfall charging station last year, Amsterdam residents had to charge 31 cents per kilowatt hour; now it is 68 cents per kWh. TotalEnergies is now charging the same kWh price, whereas it was charging 44 cents last November and 31 cents before that.
What does a full battery cost?

Why?
According to Vattenfall and the City of Amsterdam, the price increase is due to rapidly rising energy prices and the higher cost of a grid connection. The increase in VAT on public charging from 9 percent to 21 percent also plays a major role. This year there will be a third player in Amsterdam: Equans. This party will take over 2,535 charging stations installed by Vattenfall and is expected to charge a rate of 50 to 55 cents per kilowatt hour. There are a total of about 3,000 public charging stations in the city. TotalEnergies currently operates 558 charging stations.
