Car sales August 2022: South Korea dominates in the Netherlands
Figures from RAI Association, BOVAG and RDCacenter show that 23,638 new passenger cars were registered in the Netherlands last August. This is an increase of 9.2 percent compared to the same month in 2021.
A total of 199,297 new passenger cars were registered this year. That’s 11,883 fewer than in 2021 (-5.6 percent), when 211,180 new cars left the showroom through August. As was the case last year, parts supply problems continue to plague the global automotive industry.
South Korea does well in the Netherlands
In South Korea, they can be proud of the Dutch figures. Kia is in a solid first place with 2,741 registrations and an 11.6 percent market share. But another South Korean car brand is also on a roll in the Netherlands: Hyundai. The brand ranked fourth in August with 1,546 registrations and a market share of 6.5 percent. The full top five can be found below.
Most registered brands in August 2022:
1: Kia with 2,741 registrations and 11.6 percent market share
2: Volkswagen (2,237 / 9.5 percent)
3: Toyota (1,671 / 7.1 percent)
4: Hyundai (1,546 / 6.5 percent)
5: Peugeot (1,536 / 6.5 percent)
Model-level figures
At the model level, of course, we also looked at which cars are popular. In first place is the Peugeot 208 with 865 registrations. The Opel Corsa follows with 850 units. Third place is filled by the Volkswagen Polo (680), followed by two Kia’s: the Picanto (663) and Niro (642). So no listing for Hyundai at the model level, but cumulatively the brand did very well in August. In particular, the i10, i20, Kona and brand new all-electric IONIQ 5 are in demand.
